STEUBENVILLE POLICE

Two men, two stories: Two men had wildly differing accounts of a confrontation in the 100 block of N. 4th Street Thursday. A Mingo Junction man told police he was threatened by a resident who thought he was ogling his girlfriend and said when he denied it the boyfriend “threatened to punch him in the throat if he did it again.” When police spoke with the woman’s boyfriend, he denied directing any threatening comments at the Mingo Junction man, though he did speak to him about staring at his girlfriend.

Hard life: A caller reported a woman sleeping by the recycling dumpster near Dunham Sports Thursday. Police made contact with the woman, with whom they’ve had several interactions in the past week for similar reasons, but she again advised she is okay.

In hindsight…: A woman in the 200 block of Canterbury Boulevard trying to sell her house lost potential customers Thursday because a neighbor came home and had a fit because someone had parked in front of his house. She said the man “came home and created a disturbance,” which he denied, though he admitted being upset because he didn’t have a parking space. She said two people left without seeing her home.

Big talkers: A Tweed Avenue resident said neighbors with whom she’s had ongoing issues threatened her when she returned home Thursday. She said the husband and wife “began telling her that calling the police would do nothing and that they know every officer on the department.” The neighbor’s wife also claimed she “would be arrested if she continued to call the station.” Police told the woman she has every right to call them for assistance when the situation warrants and suggested she avoid the neighbors as much as possible, but if the problems persist she should consider obtaining an order of protection.

Desperate: A S. 5th Street resident said her brother “struck her in the face and attempted to steal her purse” Thursday. Police said her nose and mouth were bloodied but she denied needing medical attention, though she told them she’d like to pursue domestic violence charges against him.

Multiple charges: A Weirton couple is facing charges after police recognized them in the Kroger parking lot Wednesday as allegedly having been “involved in multiple thefts” from the store. Police said Anthony C. Chiodi, 38, and Cassandra E. McDonnell, 35, both of 975 Byron St., were each charged with two counts of petit theft after they found “numerous pieces of unbagged merchandise” in the back seat, where McDonnell was sitting. Both were passengers in a vehicle being operated by a relative of Chiodi, who was not charged. Police said the two took responsibility for the items they found.

Not welcome: Coworkers told a man who’d been threatening his ex-girlfriend he needed to leave her workplace Friday. They said he’d threatened to physically harm her until they told him to leave the property. Police found him walking on County Road 26 and advised him not to return.

Not-so-clean getaway: A Steubenville resident said motorist at the wheel of a white sedan with a black hood sideswiped his car at State Route 7 and University Boulevard Thursday. He said the other driver proceeded across Veterans Bridge, exiting at the Follansbee ramp, but not before he got the driver’s license plate, which he supplied to police.

Issues: A caller reported a female “in mental distress” in the 500 block of Adams Street Thursday. Police have had several encounters with the woman recently and said this time she “was unable to tell (them) what the date was and believed it to be Halloween,” then started “walking up to random people and telling them to get away from her and yelled.” She was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Didn’t move: The owner of a black box trailer parked in front of a residence in the 300 block of Belleview Boulevard was ticketed Thursday. Police said the owner had been warned previously that trucks and trailers are not permitted on city streets and was assured it would be moved, but wasn’t.

Sit tight: A woman with outstanding warrants who’d been taken into custody earlier this week after she failed to appear for court was issued another summons Friday. Police said she was found to have active warrants but was admitted to the hospital “for having a foreign object inside her body and would need surgery.”

Nowhere to be found: Someone reported seeing two men in the 1300 block of Wellesley Avenue “with what appeared to be a rifle” Thursday. Police said they checked the area thoroughly but found no one carrying a rifle.

Reported: A caller reported hearing shots fired, but when they checked the area police said they didn’t find anything amiss and two separate groups of people walking in the area said they’d seen fireworks on the other side of the Sunset Boulevard area.

Booked: Robert Crowley, 3028 Elm St., 2nd floor, Weirton, warrant for criminal mischief, Thursday.

Served: Sean R. Scipio, 39, no fixed address, warrant (Harrison County) Thursday. He was turned over to Harrison County sheriff’s deputies.

Charged: Employees at Kroger told police they watched a man bagging items he hadn’t paid for Tuesday and said he was already eating a $7 item when they stopped him at the door. Police said Robert A. Brown, 30, of 1420 Arlington Ave., Steubenville, was charged with misdemeanor theft.

Booked: Kevin Robinson, 30, 1504½ Euclid Ave., Steubenville, failure to appear/probation violation.

JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF

A Yorkville man said he and his father had a disagreement on their way home and when he went to get out of the vehicle Thursday, his father “attempted to run him over,” but he was able to jump out of the way. The father had been drinking and agreed to stay in for the night.
