STEUBENVILLE POLICE

Dogged: A city resident ended up in custody Saturday after she allegedly yelled obscenities and screamed at an officer who had asked her to get a dog running loose in front of her under control before it got too close to Juneteenth festival-goers. Police said Sheala M. Cronin Dembele, 35, 808 N. 8th St., was booked into the county jail with no bond on charges of assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, persistent disorderly, obstruction and having a dog at large. When the officer initially told Dembele to grab the dog she allegedly “started screaming that (the officer) should mind (her) own business and (officers) weren’t there for her.” They said she continued screaming she could face charges but the officer alleges Cronin “continued screaming and got in () face,” yelling a three-word phrase that included two curse words “while simultaneously putting her middle finger in my face.” When the officer told her she was done and took a firm grip on her arm but claimed Cronin “slapped her arm several times while attempting to pull away” while the dog, still loose, “tried to bite (her) by lunging at (her) face.” Since there was no one else to control the dog the officer said she released Cronin’s arm so she could get it inside but as she followed her, Cronin allegedly “continued to yell obscenities and advised that (the officer) wasn’t arresting her or following her inside the house.” When the officer stepped in behind her Cronin allegedly tried to shove the officer backward so she grabbed her arm again and told a juvenile to get the dog inside. Cronin then “pulled away and fell” on her backside and the officer took her into custody, though reporting she ‘continued to scream, yell, cuss and act disorderly” even at the jail.

Conflicted: A Union Avenue resident said she and her boyfriend were in a physical altercation Saturday and he “was throwing items in the residence, making a mess.” She also complained he had her phone and feared he might try to take her sister’s car when he left, but she didn’t want to pursue charges. Walked off: A man said he was sleeping in the 100 block of N. 6th Street when his fiancé was assaulted Monday. She said she was awake and watching over their belongings when she “heard a twig snap, stood up to see what it was and…was hit in the back of the head and went unconscious.” She said she was a vest she’d been wearing that had been worn on the Walking Dead set was stolen, and items from the vest were scattered on the ground.

Williams told police he remembered the homeowner pointing a gun at him, and the homeowner admitted that when he heard the commotion at his door he grabbed his gun before opening it to find out what the man wanted.

It’s complicated: A Kendall Avenue resident reported a physical altercation with the father of her children Monday. She said the two of them were arguing over “relationship complications” when he pushed her, but police said she was unwilling to say more. The male had already left on foot with “two other women.”
