Police Beat

STEUBENVILLE POLICE

Wigged out: A city resident said her child’s father had parked in her driveway so she couldn’t leave Monday. He told police he’d lived there since August but they’d had a fight the day before so he left and now he was locked out. He said he wanted to get his things from the residence. She said she’d been out the day before and returned home in the early morning hours and while she was sleeping on the sofa he “went through the contents on her cell phone and saw something he didn’t like,” resulting in him awakening her by “ripping her wig off her head and dragging her off the couch,” then went into another room and grabbed another of her wigs “and told her she wasn’t going to go to work.” Police said she had small, faint red dots that “she (said) looked like a hickey” on her neck and a small bruise on her thigh that she said was because of him pulling her off the couch and wants to pursue charges. She said he’d agreed to leave the residence and had gathered his things and left them by the door but she’s afraid of him and had the locks changed so he couldn’t get back in. Police told her he’d need to be evicted and explained what she’d have to do to get a protection order.

Walk-in: A Highland Avenue resident told police a man “came into (their) house and ran around inside” Monday. He left before police were called, but they were asked to tell him not to return.

Pointed: Someone has a problem with the owner of a vehicle in the 3300 block of Arlington Avenue Monday. Police said all four tires were slashed, windows were completely shattered and the sides of the vehicle were spray-painted, and the owner said he has no idea who could have done it.

Bothersome: A woman in the 300 block of N. 7th Street said a woman she knows only as “Ink” has been harassing her, “yelling profanities and making obscene gestures” every time she sees her car.

Hasty escape: Employees at Shoe Department told police a man had fled the store on a bicycle with a Nike book bag he hadn’t paid for. Police said when they stopped him, the man allegedly had an assortment of jewelry items, an audio mobile box, two chargers, earbuds, headphones, 10 pairs of socks, a package of tank tops and boxer briefs in his possession that hadn’t been paid for. Police charged Harley M. Crowe, 32, 180 N. 4th St., Steubenville, with theft.

Charged: Two men are facing charges after a traffic stop Monday on Franklin and Wellesley avenues. Police said the driver, Cameron Shaffer, 26, 446 Buffalo Rd., Wellsburg, was charged with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, while Nicolas Destefano, 30, 556 Rose St., Wellsburg, is facing two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Police allege they found a crack pipe on the driver’s side and crumbs of a substance believed to be crack cocaine on the seat where Destefano had been seated, and a crack pipe concealed on his person. Shaffer also was cited for unlawful/expired plates.

Fraud try: A city resident said someone tried to scam her Monday. She said a man pretending to be a bank employee sent her a message and called her about money supposedly being moved from her account into a bogus one. She said she didn’t give him any information and immediately called the bank to verify that her account was safe.

Theft: Flooring hangers, two tubes of caulk and a box of nails were stolen Monday from a property in the 600 block of Market Street.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 134 El Villa Way, 137 El Villa Way, 4605 Scioto Dr., high grass; and 1257 Lincoln Ave., mattress, household discards and litter in yard and vacant lot next door; 458 Spring Ave., couch in front of residence and other items under a tarp in the yard.

JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF

Can’t do that: A Yorkville man told deputies Sunday his landlord “removed all his belongings from his residence and may have had his vehicle towed.” He admitted being a month behind on his rent but said he had never been served with an eviction notice.

Lights out: A Wintersville resident just released from rehab after a jail stay said Sunday someone had cut an extension cord she was using to power her apartment until she could get the electric turned back on. She said while she was away in rehab, someone stole government checks meant for her that she would have used to pay her electric bill. Later, another tenant called “hysterical and crying” because the woman who had been released from rehab had shown up at her door “screaming and threatening her” and multiple others in the complex had come to her apartment and threatened her.

Wanted her gone: A caller reported a County Road 54 resident in Richmond was “attempting to push her Jeep into the roadway with a tractor” Sunday. Deputies located the man, who told them he wanted her off his property and said it never became physical. She left.
