STEUBENVILLE POLICE
Two wounded: Shots were reported fired in the 1400 block of Grove Avenue Saturday. Police said multiple callers reported hearing them and when they arrived at the location they found two gun shot victims. No further details were available.
A shots-fired call also was reported in the 1100 block of Oregon Avenue Wednesday. Police didn’t locate any evidence guns had been fired and spoke with several individuals who said they didn’t hear anything.
Bleeding: A man in a parking lot in the 900 block of N. 7th Street was bleeding Sunday and said he’d been assaulted by a female with whom he’d been arguing before the disagreement became physical in North End Park. Police said he had “an apparent stab or slash wound on his left hand” but told them he knew the woman only by her first name.
Big hit: An employee at Fort Steuben Apartments said he asked a visor for identification Tuesday and the man “started throwing items off of the desk and threw a beer can at him.” Police said there was beer all over the desk and floor and the employee’s eye was swollen and red.
Asked and answered: A McKinley Avenue resident said a juvenile threw a rock at the side of her house Saturday after she told her and her friends they couldn’t jump on her trampoline. She said the kids had asked “multiple times” before to use it and been told they couldn’t jump on it. She had video of the girl hurling the rock at her house. Police located the kids in the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue. Police told their mother the kids are not to return to the woman’s property.
Fell for it: A city resident said Tuesday she received mail advising her to contact a debit office. She said she called the number listed in the letter and ended up providing a stranger her Social Security number and her bank but when the person tried to get her to pony up $3,500 she became suspicious but hung up. She said no money was missing as of the time of the report but police advised her to contact the bank and Social Security.
Mutual combatants: A couple in the 800 block of N. 6th Street admitted they’d had a physical altercation Tuesday but neither party wanted to pursue charges even though she had a cut under her eye.
Take it in: A Wellesley Avenue resident said Saturday someone removed three wallets from the center console of her car overnight. She said a debt card, EBT card, Venmo card and two Cash App cards were stolen, along with her Social Security card.
One booked, one cited: A New Cumberland woman is facing charges after police reported finding contraband in her purse Tuesday. Sheena Gibson, 906 3rd Ave., was taken into custody after police allegedly found “numerous small plastic baggies” containing heroin, fentanyl and other unknown powdery substances, nine used hypodermic needles and four pipes in her bags, as well as a bigger bag containing more white powder and broken pills tucked in her bra. Gibson was charged with felony possession of drugs as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug abuse instruments. The driver, Jamie Straight, 53, 701 Heathermore Dr., Weirton, was cited for driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Code violations: Notices of violations were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 2727 Sunset Blvd., 3266 Portland Blvd., 815 Broadway Blvd., 403 Belleview Blvd., and 2807 Whitehaven Blvd., high grass.
Cited: Jamaine Sykes, 36, Steubenville, driving under suspension and expired plates.
JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF
Rocky ride: A woman was hospitalized May 18 after falling off the back of a motorcycle near milepost 21 on state Route 7. Deputies said she suffered severe road rash “all over her body” but was wearing a helmet. The operator said his passenger had two drinks and he attempted to get her water but she believed she could make it home and passed out. She was taken to Trinity West and later transferred to UPMC Presbyterian.
Lesson learned: A woman told deputies a man banging on her mother’s window earlier this week said he was bleeding and she believed he may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. While deputies were en route the man called 911 to report he had accidentally shot himself in the arm and chest while changing magazines and the gun discharged.
Lined up: A commercial driving instructor told deputies an irate trucker took exception to his student “getting into line to go through the gates” Tuesday at the Walmart Distribution Center. He said the trucker “had appeared not to be in line” so the student driver proceeded to the gate and the other trucker got out of his rig “screaming” at his student, then went back to his truck “and grabbed a paper bag” and returned. He said the implication was that there “was a weapon inside.” Officers remained at the scene as a precaution because the driver did have a firearm in his truck but was cooperative.
