Woman injured: A woman in the 200 block of S. 4th Street was hospitalized Thursday after she was “stabbed inside her residence by a subject known to her,” Steubenville Police Chief Ken Anderson said.
Police had been called to the residence shortly before 2 p.m. “following a report of a female who had been stabbed,” he said. She was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.
The suspect fled before police arrived.
The incident remains under investigation, he said.
Behaving badly: A man in the 800 block of Market Street told police his girlfriend was threatening to harm herself, but when police saw her, they said she was “distraught and covered in food,” Wednesday. Police said there were “meatballs and milkshakes thrown across the floor and the kitchen table,” and was holding a baby that had food on his clothing as well as sauce on his head. She said and her boyfriend had been arguing and when she left the room he “assumed she was going to harm herself” and tried to keep her from leaving the room so she pushed past him and got the baby out of his bouncer and when she did, “he began throwing food at her.” She said she then grabbed him by the shirt to stop him and told him he was “throwing hot food at me while I’m holding our child” so he “drew back and punched her in the face with (his) fist.” She told police she fell to the floor and kicked the door shut when he finally left and admitted she was aware she’d scratched him when she was “trying to stop him.” Police said they saw “a meatball sandwich and milkshake all over” but she had no bruises or scratches and told them she “didn’t want him in trouble” so she wasn’t going to pursue charges. He had no such reservations, telling police he wanted to pursue charges against her and initially claiming “(she) was the one throwing the food” until police advised him “that did not add up because of the amount of food on the victim and the baby.” Then he said he called police before the fisticuffs began and said he’d tried to leave but she grabbed his shirt and that he punched her “so she would let go.” Police said his shirt was torn, and he had a scratch on his chest. The girl’s mother said he placed a video call to her before the argument turned physical and said she saw the victim holding his shirt and while she didn’t see the punch, “she heard the hit” and then he left the apartment. She said when she got there “the baby was crying (and) the victim was hysterical.” Police opted to file a domestic violence charge themselves against Cayden Putorek, 18, 811 Market St., Apt. H, Steubenville.
Made it worse: Allison Pool, 39, 1308 Oregon Ave., was charged with failure to comply, obstructing official business, a stop sign violation and an expired registration after she allegedly tried to evade police attempting to serve her with two outstanding warrants, Wednesday. Police reported Pool cut through alleys, struck a garbage can and ran at least one stop sign in her effort to avoid them, and said when she pulled up in front of her residence “ran up the stairs to get (inside)” but an officer caught up to her on her front porch. Pool said, “she tried stopping but her vehicle would not stop” and that she took off “because she was trying to smoke a cigarette,” police said. Pool also was served with a Carroll County warrant charging her with a probation violation and a Municipal Court warrant charging her with theft.
Served: A man was taken into custody after a traffic stop in the 500 block of Grandview Avenue, Thursday. Joshua E. Morris, 41, 118 Garfield Ave., Mingo Junction., was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and served with a warrant alleging possession of drugs. Police said they found a pipe “tucked near his groin” after he advised he “believed he had a pipe” in his possession. Police said they saw numerous torn baggies with residue in the vehicle” and burnt tweezers, “all of which are indicative of drug use,” but the driver was released from the scene after no contraband turned up when she was searched.
Harassment: A Cherry Avenue resident said a woman known to her is “making threats of bodily harm towards her via text,” Wednesday. Police told her she could pursue a civil protection order should the threats continue.
Pay the piper: A Euclid Avenue resident said a family member took his motorcycle without his permission a week ago and when it was returned it had “a lot of damage,” Wednesday. He said the family member had said he would pay to have it fixed but now he isn’t returning his phone calls.
Don’t agree: A caller reported two people arguing in the 700 block of Kendall Ave., Wednesday. The two advised it was strictly verbal, police said.
