Police reports

Steubenville Police

Pulling punches: A caller said she got in an argument with another female who “pulled her hair and tried to punch her” at a residence in the 400 block of Union Avenue Tuesday. She said the incident took place in a bedroom she rents from the tenant and the female was there visiting the woman renting the room to her. The female visitor said the caller had “punched her in the face” so she “pulled her hair in self-defense.”

Blame game: A would-be customer caused a disturbance at the Sunoco station downtown, Tuesday. Employees said the individual was upset when his debit card wouldn’t work, so they argued. He refused to leave until police were on the way.

Keep the peace: Someone complained that a resident in the 2600 block of Hollywood Boulevard was making too much noise, Wednesday. Police said they didn’t hear any excessive noise when they spoke with the resident, who had four guests over. They were advised to keep their voices down if they go outside to avoid more problems.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owners/occupants of properties at 706 McDowell Ave., mattress and sofa in the driveway; 708 Kendall Ave., household furniture in the side and back yard; 1320 Arlington Ave., litter on bank and sidewalk in front of property; 1333 Arlington Ave., litter, discarded household items and garbage in driveway and front yard; 811 Pekruhn Court, garbage bags piled by the side door, piles of scrap and household debris in yard and adjacent lots.

Cited: Crystal M. Hague, 40, S. 4th St., Steubenville, red light violation after a three-car accident Tuesday on Washington at N. 5th streets. Police said Hague told them when she entered the intersection, struck the first vehicle and the impact pushed them both into the third vehicle. Hague said she thought her light was green. Also ticketed: Vehicles with expired plates parked in the 600 block of Jeanette Avenue and the 200 block of N. 10th Street, both towed.

Making noises: A deputy heard screaming and saw an ambulance outside a building on Market Street in Yorkville, March 10. He located a woman in the laundry who “said she was okay” and reported no one else was in the building. She said she was “folding laundry and was upset so she was going to shower.” Deputies said she was unsure what day of the week it was but when they offered to have EMS stop by, she declined.

Bad judgment: A woman who’d let her ex stay with her for several days because he was “withdrawing from meth and had nowhere to go” said he stole several items from her while she was at work, March 16. She said when she contacted him about the theft, he admitted taking the items and threatened her.

Drunk and fighting: A Tiltonsville caller reported seeing a couple involved in a disagreement and said “both appeared drunk,” March 14. The male involved had a bloody lip and said the woman “hit him in the face with a beer bottle when they were leaving the bar” and then hit him again on the drive home. He said he didn’t want to file charges and “just wanted to go to sleep.” Deputies said the woman was uncooperative but said she never touched him but was “highly intoxicated” and had difficulty finishing sentences. She claimed the male’s lip was injured “by preventive measures” but denied anything happening. Later she said she “was strangled and that she kicked (him) in self-defense,” deputies said.

Stranger danger: A man said he went to his girlfriend’s home in Dillonvale but when he knocked, “a man opened the door and punched him,” March 14. Deputies said his face was covered in blood.
