Steubenville Police

Helping herself: A Maxwell Avenue resident said he woke up to discover a woman “standing next to his bed,” Saturday. He said he told her to leave and she did, but within minutes he began getting notifications that purchases were being made at a nearby business with his Venmo account and he also discovered cash missing from his wallet. A roommate advised he’d let the woman into the house to use the restroom and “was unaware that she was walking around…inside.” The residents identified the woman and the man whose money was being stolen advised he wants her charged. Police said the description of the thief the two gave them matched the descriptions clerks gave them of “a skinny female wearing dark clothing.” The fraudulent purchase totaled just under $226, along with the $100 he’d had in his wallet.

Light-fingered relative: A Johnson Road told police a family member stole $782 from her apartment, Friday. She said the family member, who lives in the Pittsburgh area, was staying at her apartment and she’d left her there unattended and when she got home, her guest had left and her rent money was gone.

Noisy neighbor: A S. 5th Street resident wanted police to talk with a neighbor “about hearing her thoughts,” Saturday. Police advised him “to speak with her” himself, but she doesn’t have to speak with him if she doesn’t want to.

Seeing things: Patrons at the Laundromat were concerned about a “suspicious male,” Saturday. Police reported a man they’d dealt with a couple days ago “appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine” and “was hallucinating.” They said he admitted “he had been up a few days straight” and agreed to go to the hospital for treatment.

Wake-up call: A Cunningham Lane resident said her neighbor was “pounding on her door and was yelling about cameras,” Sunday. She told police it’s not the first time he’s done it. The neighbor said someone “came into his apartment while he was sleeping and rearranged his belongings” and wanted the caller to check her cameras. Police said there was no sign anyone had forced entry to his residence.

One-sided: A fight was reported in the 100 block of N. Commercial Aley, Saturday. Police spoke with a man involved, who said he “was yelling at himself (but) everything was okay.” No one else was in the area, police said.

Stolen: The owner of a Rosslyn Boulevard property said a new washer and dryer were stolen from it, along with hoses and a dryer vent, Friday. He said the items had been delivered Thursday and were in his basement. The items were valued at just under $2,321.

Soggy mess: A Langley Avenue resident said people are cutting through her property to get to a sidewalk, Friday. She said that day an individual in a motorized wheelchair through her yard and got stuck in the wet ground, “nearly causing (his) wheelchair to flip backwards.” She told police she’s worried about people using her property as a shortcut being injured as well as possible property damage.

Continuing saga: A city resident told police a woman “was being held against her will in the basement of (a) residence” in the 1300 block of Wellesley Avenue, Thursday. Police said the alleged victim advised “no such thing took place” as did her male companion. Police said the woman “appeared fine and did not show any sign of injury” when they spoke with her outside the presence of the male. On Friday, police reported the same two people were arguing in the 1300 block of Oregon Avenue. The male told them the dispute started when he “accused her of stealing his cell phone” and she began yelling and asked someone to call police. He told police he didn’t need help and she’d already left the area.

Toss up: Callers complained juveniles were throwing rocks at vehicles in the 900 block of Market Street, Saturday. Police told them to knock it off and sent them home.

Unhappy ex: A woman refused to let her kids’ father have his scheduled visit with them, Friday. She claimed he’d texted one of the kids disparaging and bullying comments to their child pertaining to the child’s hair. Police told her ignoring a court order is never a good idea but she said she wasn’t letting him take them. He was advised to notify the court.

Throwing things: A city resident said middle-schoolers are “removing the landscaping rocks that outline her fence and throwing them at each other,” Saturday. She showed police video of the kids in action and said it’s been “an ongoing problem” since last summer.

Bat problem: A Lawson Avenue resident reported another “bird or bat” in her home, Thursday. Police located a bat in an upstairs bedroom and captured it, releasing it in some woods nearby.

Long way home: Police spotted a man walking in the curb lane on Washington Street Hill, Sunday. He told them he’d been recently discharged from the hospital and was trying to walk home. They gave him a ride.

Oops: A hit-and-run accident was reported in the 600 block of South Street, Sunday. The caller said he heard “a loud crashing noise outside and (saw) a white vehicle sitting in the middle of the roadway” before the driver backed up and fled. Police said the caller’s vehicles weren’t damaged but they did locate a chain link fence across from his residence that appeared to have been struck, with three metal poles damaged “and the fence pulled out over the sidewalk.” Police said the vehicle’s front-end license plate and bracket were torn off when the vehicle driver reversed.

Booked: Kurtis A. Williams, 29, Newark, N.J., receiving stolen property, a vehicle reported stolen in Pennsylvania, Thursday; Gregory A. Stiles, 55. 804 W. Fernwood Dr., Toronto, warrant for petit theft, Saturday; Terrick Grimm, 32, 508 Logan St., Steubenville, failure to appear (Municipal Court), Saturday.

Charged: Kaylinde Stansbury, 43, 144 Lisa Court, Weirton, was charged with misdemeanor theft after a traffic stop in the 800 block of Rosswell Avenue, Friday. Police said they were looking into a parking problem involving Stansbury’s vehicle when they realized she matched the description and was wearing the same clothing as a woman allegedly involved in a theft at Walmart a week earlier. Stansbury also was cited for no operator’s license. Others charged: Glenn Miller, 39, 116 Comet Ave., Mingo Junction, failure to appear driving under suspension, Thursday; Terry Richardson, 46, 220 Wilshire Blvd., Steubenville, theft, Thursday.
