Police reports
Steubenville Police
Freeloading: Employees asked police to remove a man from the premises after his card was declined and he refused to leave, Wednesday. They said they’d given the man until noon to clear out and prior to the cutoff he “would come to the front desk and give the receptionist a hard time before going back to his room.” Once the deadline passed they had no contact with him, reporting he remained in the room, “occupying it for free.” When police told him he needed to vacate the premises they said he packed his things and left.
Anger issues: Residents in the 700 block of Wilkins Avenue said a juvenile in their care “has been acting out for several weeks, threatening members of the household and destroying the residence,” Wednesday. The caller said she went into his basement living area to gather his laundry “and he began cursing and screaming at her” and later came upstairs “and began throwing dishes on the floor.” Another family member said the youth has “been prone to violence…in the past and has assaulted him several times” and had allegedly been caught “stealing property from…neighbors.” Two hours later the male contacted police to report the youth was “threatening him and telling him to meet at (a local market) to fight.” He said he declined to meet the boy and told him “he was going to be in prison before he was 19 at the rate he was living his life,” and not long after the boy showed up “and began punching him in the head.” He said they grappled but eventually he got the boy in a headlock and when he released him the boy fled. He told police he wants to pursue charges against the youth.
Risky business: Callers reported a man walking in the roadway in the 150 block of Sunset Boulevard, Wednesday. Police said they’d warned him earlier in the day to stay out of the road. He denied being under the influence of drugs and said he’d “been out of jail for 10 days and has been sober.” He had no contraband in his possession so police warned him if he does it again he’ll be cited.
Booked: Cherokee L. McLaughlin, 27, 141 Montgomery Lane, Mingo Junction, possession of drugs, possession of hypodermic needles and possession of drug paraphernalia, Thursday. Police claim they found a bag containing multiple used needles and two glass pipes with residue as well as a pill bottle with McLaughlin’s name on it that contained two small, crystal-like rocks believed to be methamphetamine.
