Steubenville Police

Carrying a grudge: A man reported being harassed by a couple while he waited for a city bus, Tuesday. He told police the couple “threatened to beat him up” because he reported they were causing problems several days ago at a downtown location.

Taking walk-ins: A Buena Vista man said someone entered his residence within the past three days and removed multiple items, Tuesday. He said he was missing Jordan-style basketball shoes, Nike running/basketball shoes, an AT&T Wi-Fi box connecting cord plus several other cords. He told police the thief could have been his “ex-romantic friendship” partner, but his lock isn’t working, and anyone could have entered through his front door.

It’s not working out: A female reported an altercation with an older woman in the 400 block of S. Fifth Street and said she’s now being forced to move out, Tuesday. She claims her male companion’s mother, whose name she does not know, “made threatening remarks toward/at her,” which led to the argument and her being told to leave. She said she had been staying there for less than a month but in that time his mother “stated she would hurt her” and that she “would kill her,” but had no proof. Police advised her how she could obtain a protection order.

Threatened: An employee at a Lincoln Avenue business told police a female who is “somewhat known to her” had accused her of “saying untrue (things) to or about her sister,” Tuesday. She said the woman told her she would be back at 10 p.m. to “beat her…”

Jeepers Peepers: A resident in the 500 bloc of Pine Valley Drive said she caught someone standing out of her apartment’s window…looking in” but she couldn’t describe the individual because it was dark outside, Tuesday. Police checked the area but didn’t see anyone near the building. The same woman called police around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday to report her neighbor “had been knocking at her door and was possibly hiding in the wooded area behind the apartment.” Police tried to make contact with the neighbor but reported he didn’t answer the door and the apartment was “totally dark.”

Elusive: A resident in the 700 block of Market Street reported seeing a male attempting to get in the building, Tuesday. He had a description, but police didn’t find anyone who matched it.

Problematic: A female was “causing a disturbance and refusing to leave” Capris Sausage Shop, Tuesday. Employees said she left in a red Jeep after they called police.

Served: Christopher M. Popovich, 49. 119 Greenlawn Blvd., Weirton, bench warrant (Municipal Court) failure to appear, Tuesday.
