Police reports

Steubenville Police

Grabby guy: A handsy patient caused problems for a nurse at Trinity Medical Center West, Friday. The nurse said she entered a patient’s room to check on him and he “began looking her up and down and started to flirt with her.” She said she had to move his shoulder so she could better evaluate his condition, but when she did, he “stroked her hair.” She said she was looking at the screen so she “quickly backed up and pushed her hair back,” but he “grabbed the back of her neck to try to sit up and kiss her.” She said she told him “no” numerous times and he laid back down. She told police she wasn’t injured and had reported the man’s actions to a supervisor, and while she isn’t interested in pursuing charges wanted to know if there were “other actions” she could take. Police told her she could pursue a protection order.

Kid stuff: A caller in the 300 block of Rosemont told police there’s “yelling and banging going on all the time” at an apartment, Friday. When they asked the tenant about it, he told them he “has kids and they could be the reason” his neighbor called. He said no one had been arguing that day but “his little kids have been a little hyper (that day).” Police said the kids appeared “happy and healthy” so they advised him to try and keep them quiet “to avoid any other complaints.”

Dusting off: Police checked the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue for a couple “involved in some type of altercation,” Friday. When the individuals were located, they said were walking to the library and the female said “she had snow on her legs and jacket due to slipping on ice and landing in a snowbank.” They denied a disturbance.

Pushing it: A woman reported a man who had been friends with her late father came to her workplace “and began to curse at her,” Friday. She said since her father’s death the man ha been “sending her harassing remarks via social medical,” but he hadn’t threatened her and “only cursed at her when she asked him to leave the premises.” She told police she didn’t want him trespassed from the property but she did want him to leave.

Hearing things: A man in the 1600 block of State Street was concerned someone was in his basement, Friday. Police checked it for him and said they didn’t find anything amiss.

Coincidental contact? A Wintersville resident reported his tires had been slashed, Saturday. He said he’d seen a woman known to him at both businesses he’d been to and believes she did it.

Attention getter: A man refusing to leave Pilot Gas ended up being taken into custody after police discovered he was wanted in Lorain County, Saturday. Police said Christopher Hunt, 37, Columbus, was booked into the Jefferson County jail without bond on a warrant for contempt of court.

Needed help: Police arranged for a man to go to the hospital for treatment after he allegedly told 9-1-1 dispatchers he “wanted to set himself on fire,” Saturday. They said when they spoke with him, the man said he’d also “thought about jumping off … the bridge.”

Party pooper: A caller complained of a “crowd gathered” at a residence in the 700 block of Brady Avenue, Saturday. Police said a house party was taking place and they spoke with the host, who said everyone was leaving. Police told him to pick the trash up along the sidewalk and driveway.

Dogs out: A caller in the 3000 block of Glendwell Avenue reported hearing a dog barking “for at least 30 minutes,” Friday. Police said they advised the dog’s owners neighbors were complaining and told her she “needs to keep in mind how long the dogs are outside in the severe cold.” She brought them in.

Booked: Christopher Gilmore, 26, 731 Oxford Blvd., Steubenville, contempt of court, Saturday. A caller had reported a domestic disturbance.

Cited: Anthony Hall, Wheeling, operating a motor vehicle on a temporary permit.

Cited; Abigail Liddick, 21, 153 James Way, Toronto, failure to yield following a two-car collision with no injuries Friday on Sunset at Hollywood boulevards. Liddick said she was waiting to make a right turn onto Sunset when a motorist in the right-hand lane waved her out, but she turned into the passing lane and collided with a Honda CRV, police reported.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Strange: A Jefferson County woman said her ex-boyfriend “struck her repeatedly while driving from Weirton” and when they reached a stretch of highway on old state Route 7 told her to get out of the vehicle and walk the rest of the way to her home, Jan. 28. She said on the way from Weirton the man had “spit on (her) twice” and “struck her in the side of the head and the arm” and had also “grabbed her and (held) her head down near the gear shaft” and that he’d used electricians’ snips to pinch her thigh. The woman said they’d been in and off-and-on relationship over a 12-year span but had had “a romantic engagement” the night before “when she was released from jail.” She said he’d found her phone in the residence and used it to access her CashApp and take $1,000 out of her account. She also claimed he’d been physically abusive “multiple times in the past” and on one occasion he’d caused property damage to a family member’s home, but it was never reported. She told deputies she wanted to pursue charges.

Just rude: A Tweed Avenue (Steubenville) resident said someone left a vehicle in his driveway, and he wanted it moved, but deputies told him he’d need to have it towed at the owner’s expense, Tuesday. He wasn’t happy when he called a couple two companies and was told “it would take a couple hours to arrive and … he would have to pay, then go after the owner for reimbursement.” A deputy located the couple that owned the vehicle, who said they’d “broke down and … did not care if it was towed.”

Guns ‘n alcohol: Callers reported a group of men outside a Dillonvale residence “drinking and shooting firearms,” Wednesday. Deputies heard the shots and as they approached said they could hear “multiple voices telling each other to “hide” and to “be quiet.” The group had gone inside but one of them came outside and invited them into the house. Deputies eventually located three guns and all “were highly intoxicated,” but the man who’d invited them in was already on probation through Dillonvale County Court. Information was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.

Bright lights: A Bergholz woman complained someone was shining two bright lights through her windows, Jan. 28. She said the lights had been shining for 15 minutes and weren’t moving. Deputies located a woman sitting in her vehicle on County Road 58, talking on the phone with a co-worker. She told deputies if she drove any further, she would lose her cell service.
