Delivery gone bad: A delivery driver took an order “for pop and bread crumbs” to the wrong house in the 1300 block of Oak Grove Avenue, Tuesday. He said the man who’d ordered the items was agitated because he’d taken them to his neighbor’s house first and then when he realized his bread crumbs weren’t in the order he was even more upset and they ended up in the street arguing. The customer told police he believes the missing crumbs were in the delivery vehicle and the driver “was refusing to (deliver) them.” Police advised him to contact the delivery service he’d used but the driver said he’d give him a refund.
Mail call: A resident in the 1400 block of Oak Grove Avenue told police someone dumped bags of garbage onto his property, Tuesday. Police said there were 10 bags of trash behind the residence and when the property owner opened them, they found “mail … (that had been sent) to a specific address.” The sanitation department said they’d confiscated that resident’s trash can two weeks ago for non-payment of their water bill. Police went there to speak with the resident, who was advised why there were there “and to stop putting trash on the property.” He was advised to take his trash to the landfill himself “or pay the water bill (so) the trash can could be returned.” The owner of the property where it had been dumped didn’t want to pursue charges but wanted the dumping to stop, which they relayed to the offender.
Hungry man: The manager at Aldi’s told police a man tried to steal “a cart full of meat” he hadn’t paid for and, when he was confronted, fled without it in a U-haul with an Arizona plate, Tuesday. The manager said when he intercepted him, he “pushed the cart toward (him)” and ran off jumping in the truck and believes the same man was involved in a similar incident Saturday. Police located the truck and charged David P. Cope, 62, 564 Cadiz Road, Lot 19, Wintersville with theft. The merchandise involved was valued at just over $281, they said.
Dumped: Someone dumped two junkers on a city lot in the 500 block of South Street, Tuesday. Police said both vehicles had expired plates and were towed.
Conned: A city resident was scammed out of $1,700 after a caller pretending to be a sheriff’s deputy “told her she had missed jury duty and now faced being arrested” unless she paid a fee, Tuesday. She told police she went to the Marathon station and put the cash he demanded in lieu of arrest into the Bitcoin machine. Authorities remind residents that “no government law enforcement entity will call and demand payment” or “demand payment in the form of gift cards or bitcoin,” pointing out demands for bit coins or gift card payments “are absolutely a scam.”
Uninvited: A Rosslyn Boulevard resident said someone broke into her house, Tuesday. She said she’d been away for a few hours and when she got home realized her security light had been turned off, and when she checked for her spare key discovered it was gone so talked with her landlord and changed all the locks. She said nothing else was missing, but told police one of her neighbor’s “has been driving circles around her house and it makes her uncomfortable.”
Had her chance: Someone reported a couple arguing in the 300 block of Henry Avenue and said the male was “refusing to let (his female companion) call 9-1-1 or have her cell phone.” Police said as they approached they could hear the couple arguing but the couple stopped arguing when they knocked on the door. Police said they could see the woman telling a small child she was holding to “shhhh” and said she made eye contact with them but still refused to open the door.
Hasty exit: A Sherman Avenue resident asked police to get a man out of her home, Tuesday. He was gathering his belongings when police arrived so they waited until he was gone.

Slippery slope: A motorist said he got stuck on “a narrow road on a sheet of ice” when he tried to get past a delivery truck on county Road 45, Tuesday. He said he was trying to get down the hill “but couldn’t go any further due to an Amazon truck parked in the middle of the road.” Deputies advised that both vehicles were struck. Island Creek trustees were asked to assist in getting the vehicles safely off the road, but they told deputies it’s the reason “there is a sign reading that ‘the road is not maintained during winter months for this reason.'” He said they don’t want to put his road workers in danger but said they’d send someone, though they’d be instructed “not to proceed if they felt it was too dangerous.” Deputies said both vehicles were extricated, and a road closed sign was posted “at both ends of the roadway.”
