Getting pushy: Police responding to reports two people were disrupting a service at a North Fourth Street church ended up charging them both, but not for the alleged disturbance, Wednesday. Heather Giesler, no age or address listed, was cited for wrongful entrustment and the male police said was driving a tan Toyota sedan registered in her name, Joshua A. Humphreys, 34, of Weirton, was booked for driving under suspension and failing to stop and report an accident on a city street. Police said as they arrived they spotted the sedan “speeding through the parking lot and exiting south on Fourth Street,” stopping only to pick up a woman “who was also walking away from the area,” and report two individuals flagged them down, “pointing to (that) same vehicle as it left the area.” The officer said he turned around and followed the driver to the intersection of Logan Avenue and Commercial Alley, and after identifying Humphreys as the driver claim said he allegedly “admitted getting into an altercation at St. Joseph’s Church” and grumbled that “they are supposed to help people.” A deacon at the church alleged the congregation “has had several problems with (people) interrupting mass and asking patrons for money” and said on that day he’d “approached (Humphreys) and told him to leave” and claimed Humphreys shoved him, then fled the sanctuary. He said he does not want to press charges but wants both parties “trespassed from the property and told never to return,” so police warned the couple they’ll be arrested if they return to the property. While they were talking to them police said they were notified of an alleged hit-skip that had occurred “just prior to (Humphreys) arriving back at the church to pick up (the female)” and said the vehicle they were in matched the description of the one involved in the hit-skip and “had what appeared to be fresh damage to the front driver’s side.” Police said Humphreys told them he’d “slid through the intersection” at Commercial Alley and Washington Street,” colliding with a vehicle that had the right-of-way. After being booked he was issued a summons ordering him to appear in Steubenville Municipal Court Monday.
Blame game: A woman reported being threatened at a business in the Fort Steuben Mall by a male “due to a previous relationship (the male) was in” and told police she wants to pursue charges, Thursday. The woman and her said the man had been harassing them and when the woman stepped between the men to defuse the situation, he “made a comment about killing (her) and grabbed her arm and poured his glass of water on her.” Police said surveillance footage “clearly” showed the man pouring the water on the woman.
Not the brightest: Callers reported a vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot was “pulling a sled and person by a rope,” Wednesday. When police caught up to them, they were “loading a kayak in the rear of (their) vehicle (and) admitted to towing the boat.” Police told them “they were not permitted to do so” and warned the younger of them he was violating curfew.
