Police reports

Jefferson County Sheriff

Your brain on drugs: An Adena woman told deputies she was “standing in the rain and her landlord’s girlfriend was stealing her money with spyware,” Sunday. After speaking with deputies she admitted she’d “used methamphetamines and has not slept in two days,” so she agreed to go to the hospital for a voluntary mental health evaluation.

Head case: A Yorkville woman reported two females were trying to get into her home, Saturday. She said she “does not want the cops there but wanted to advise (them) who was kidnapping her” and said her “house is currently moving to another street to get away from them.” Deputies said the caller was “bouncing from topic to topic during the conversation and would not appropriately answer questions.” Neighbors a few minutes later advised that overnight a female had been at their door, pushing their video doorbell. They said she was “screaming for help, claiming … they were trying to kidnap her.” Deputies eventually located her and took her to the hospital for evaluation.

Heating up: A Mingo Junction resident said a couple had been arguing over the phone and “both of them (threatened) to shoot each other,” Monday. The caller said the couple “fights all the time but (the male) wasn’t at their home and … has no way to get there so there was no current issue” and just wanted a report on file.

Troubled homefront: A Yorkville man said his roommate “threatened him after he told him to get out,” Friday. He said he’d told him he “had until Sunday to get out but now that he threatened him he has to get out now.” Deputies went to the location and after speaking with the parties advised “everything was resolved.” On Sunday, however, the same man reported his roommate “threw something at his window after a dispute.” The thrower had already left when deputies arrived and the caller said all was well and told deputies he didn’t know what was thrown or who threw it, “he just wanted us to know.”

What’s to see: A county resident told deputies she’s “still receiving explicit photos from an unknown number,” Saturday. She said the tormenter had switched to a new number.

Out of sight: Gun shots and muzzle flashes were reported on the hillside off county Road 7F, Toronto, Friday. Deputies said Toronto Police also got calls about it, but when they checked the area with Toronto officers and a drone they were unable to find the source.

Carrying on: A caller reported a child “yelling and screaming” at a Two Ridge Road apartment, Monday. The homeowner said they’d “just returned home and their child was excited and playing,” but said they would calm the child down.

Concerning: An individual requested a welfare check on a Jefferson County resident who’d left a voice message for a family member who she “does not wish to live anymore,” Sunday. Deputies who listened to the message said the woman was “slurring her speech and speaking” in a manner that wasn’t normal for her, but when they spoke with her face-to-face deputies said she was fine.

Looking for help: A county resident denied wanting to harm himself but said he needed help, Saturday. He told deputies he’s “going through marital issues and is having a hard time with things” and needs help, so they took him to the hospital to speak with a counselor.

Long walk: Deputies spotted a woman walking on state Route 7 just north of Toronto who said she was walking to East Liverpool, Saturday. They gave her a ride to a Wellsville location.

No returns: A Steubenville area resident said she’d loaned her car to a man “about a week ago and (he) is now avoiding her,” Thursday. She said she’d warned him she was calling the sheriff’s department to find out how to handle the situation, and gave deputies the man’s cell phone number so they could reach out. Deputies called him but he didn’t pick up, though he did call the woman to tell her “he would return the vehicle within (the) hour.”

Check up: Someone called 9-1-1 and hung up, but before the call disconnected dispatchers reported hearing “what appeared to be a male and female arguing,” Thursday. No one answered when they tried returning the call so deputies showed up on their doorstep and a resident said his grandchild had placed the call. Deputies had all the grandchildren come out for a well-being check and said they and their grandfather “all appeared to be OK.”

Drugs: Deputies assisting Mingo Junction police at a traffic stop in the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue reported finding a substance that tested positive for cocaine, Thursday. They said a search of the vehicle turned up more paraphernalia, including “burned spoons and push rods.” The man in possession of the vehicle said he’d “last used it a week ago and admitted the spoons were used to get rid of fentanyl in the cocaine.” No further information was available.

Steubenville Police

Door-to-door: Police spoke with residents of every home in the 700 block of Dock Street, looking for a juvenile who’d placed “several calls” to Brooke County 9-1-1 and hung up, Sunday. They said no one admitted having a juvenile playing with a cell phone nor was anyone in distress.

Stand out: A caller reported a man in the area of Carnegie Street at Maryland Avenue “yelling in the roadway and making threats,” Monday. Police searched the area but did not locate anyone misbehaving.

Won’t let go: A city resident said he and his girlfriend are being harassed by her ex, Sunday. He said the ex is following them around town and threatening them and they are fearful for their safety. Police advised him to pursue a protection order.

Needed help: A man told police he wanted to go to the hospital for a mental health evaluation, Sunday. He said he was having ongoing mental issues and needed assistance, so police took him.

Why call? The owner of a Dock Street property told police he’s concerned an individual known to him might do damage, Sunday. He didn’t say why he was concerned nor would he say who the individual is.
