Cited: Leroy A. Mossor, 48, 170 township Road 394, Toronto, red light violation; Shawn M. Young, 52, 206 Deepwoods Lane, Weirton, expired registration; and Nicole T. Simmons, 36, Cleveland, speeding, driving while suspended and expired registration.
Steubenville Police
Ho, ho, ho: A couple in the 100 block of Wildon Avenue was arguing and the husband called police, Thursday. The woman said she’d “asked him to wake up so the kids could open their gifts and he became argumentative.” Her husband said they’d been arguing “about the kids.” They said the disagreement never became physical and he agreed “to leave and let everyone cool down.”
Going home: A Dayton man spent Christmas in the Jefferson County jail after he allegedly was “fighting with a female in a vehicle” in front of a residence in the 300 block of Terrace Avenue, Thursday. Melvin Mason Jr., 32, was booked into jail without bond after being charged with assault and obstructing official business. He also was served with a probation violation warrant out of Franklin County. Police said they arrived at the location in time to see “a male chasing a female in the street … with his fist cocked back” and after they startled him with a siren they said he took off running. They said Mason ignored their calls to stop, telling one officer they were going to “take him to jail” if they caught him and continuing to flee before another officer intercepted him. Mason was scheduled to appear in Steubenville Municipal Court Friday after which he will be extradited, police said.
Holiday cheer: A woman in the 2500 block of Sunset Boulevard told police she and her husband were arguing because “she is tired of his drinking” and she was going to file for divorce, Wednesday. She said on two separate occasions he “kept grabbing her arm and physically (tried) to remove her ring from her finger.” She said she’s afraid of him and that he told her “he wanted to punch her” and the situation escalated. She told police she wanted to pursue charges.
Last minute shopping: Employees at Wal-Mart reported several individuals tried to leave the store with merchandise they hadn’t paid for, Wednesday.
• Ternice D. Coles, 48, Newark, N.J., allegedly skip-scanned numerous items and passed all points of sale without paying for them, employees alleged. Just over $125 in merchandise was involved, police said, including $56 worth of items that “had to be thrown away” because they couldn’t be put back in stock. Coles was charged with petit theft.
• Tanya Evans, 37, 237 S. 12th St., Weirton, allegedly tried to walk out of the store with merchandise valued at nearly $224, employees said. Evans was charged with petit theft.
• Daniel Yost, 43, 1783 Northview Road, Wellsburg, allegedly took “sports cards and a charge box” from the store, employees allege. Yost was charged with petit theft.
• Terri Homol, 47, 250 Second St., Bergholz, allegedly was seen concealing merchandise in her coat pockets and had some in a bookbag, employees said. Crafting items valued at more than $81 were recovered.
Creeped out: A Wellesely Avenue resident said her ex “had been following her around in his vehicle,” Thursday. She said she’d had a problem with him the day before, police said.
Booked: Steven Burgos, 36, 2518 Sunset Blvd., Apt. 7, Steubenville, domestic violence, Wednesday.
Holiday stress: A disturbance was reported in the 400 block of Henry Avenue, Wednesday. Police said both subjects were calm when they arrived and advised they “had been arguing over issues associated with the holiday.” They said it never escalated to a physical altercation.
Court date: A woman brought her child to the police station to turn herself in, Wednesday. After confirming the warrant through juvenile court, the child was booked into the detention center.
Out of sight: Callers reporting two people “in the street shouting at each other,” Wednesday. Police checked the area and didn’t locate any disturbance.
‘Fessed up: A juvenile accompanied by a family member wanted to turn herself in, Wednesday. The juvenile stated she’d been involved in criminal activity in West Virginia. The family member took the child to West Virginia to meet with officers in the appropriate jurisdiction, they said.
