Wrong answer: A man purporting to be a physician tried to call in a prescription for promethazine, an antihistamine, for a woman, “Cindy,” Friday. Employees at Walgreens said the caller tried to use the doctor’s information, but when they asked for his credentials “the caller (said) he would have to call them back,” at which point the employee told him “she did not believe (he) was actually (the doctor)” and he hung up. Police said they could not locate a female with the full name and date of birth the caller gave employees.
Action vs reaction: A woman ended up in custody after her male companion told police she’d physically assaulted him, Saturday. Police said Patricia Hayes, 35, 1014 Adams St., admitted attacking the man after he “spit on her” but there was no evidence to support her claim, while the man involved had “scratches on (his) chest.” Hayes was charged with assault.
Fired up: A caller reported seeing a woman slumped over her steering wheel in the 200 block of North Third Street, Friday. Police said she appeared to be intoxicated, “as her head was ‘swaying’ back and forth and her ayes appeared to be very ‘heavy'” and they detected a “very strong odor of what seemed to be whiskey” as they approached the vehicle. They said they detected the same smell “coming from the driver’s breath” and “several open containers” of Fireball at her feet and “more than a dozen open (or) empty containers of Fireball” in the vehicle. The driver, identified as Guy V. Thomas, 35, 940 Market St., Apt. 614, Wheeling, was cited for having an open container. The vehicle was blocking the gas pumps and, “because the interior was so filthy” and Thomas’s passengers didn’t have valid licenses the vehicle was towed. Thomas was told her appearance in court wouldn’t be mandatory, but she wouldn’t be able to retrieve the car without a release that she could only get from the clerk of courts.

Police were unable to take pictures of the damage because her boyfriend had the car and wouldn’t be back until after midnight but based on where she told them it had been parked the hit-skip vehicle should have front-end damage. There was a vehicle parked nearby that had front-end damage, but police were unable to speak with the owner.
Kids causing problems: A Dresden Avenue resident said three juveniles came on her property and kicked one of her windows, causing what police said was minor damage, Friday.
