Steubenville Police

Punched: A woman said she was assaulted in the early morning hours in the 600 block of South Street, Sunday. She said she was approached by another woman who “said something (she) could not understand and then … punched (her) in the face multiple times with a closed fist.” The victim said there were “multiple videos” of the assault on social media.”

One charged, one left: Two individuals sleeping near the loading dock by Urban Thrift were told to move on, Tuesday. Police told them they couldn’t stay there and are not to return, but while there police discovered one of them had an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody. Brian C. Wright, 43, no fixed address, was booked for probation violation (Wintersville County Court.)

Charged: A woman was taken into custody after she allegedly tried to flee Wal-mMart without paying for merchandise, Tuesday. Police said Brandy L. Henderson, 47, 113 Parr Ave., Mingo Junction, was charged with petit theft and told she is banned from Wal-Mart for life after employees allegedly watched her bagging items that hadn’t been scanned, using tags from lower-priced items to scan pricier items and hiding a watermelon in the bottom of her cart after asking an employee to cancel the transaction. Henderson denied stealing anything, police said.

Theft charged: Employees at Wal-Mart told police a woman threw three packs of ground meat on the floor when they tried to keep her from leaving the premises with merchandise she hadn’t paid for, Tuesday. They claim they watched the woman skip-scan items at the checkout, including Tide Pods and two coffee syrups. Police said Tueria Lyda, 30, 1301 Belleview Blvd., Steubenville, was charged with petit theft. Employees took possession of items recovered from the vehicle, and told police “the returned items totaled $133.31, as well as items damaged totaling $65.27.”

Welfare checked: Police were asked to check on an intoxicated female in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Tuesday. Police said the woman and a male companion had been drinking, and after speaking with them the two were given rides “to their requested locations.”

Picked up: Someone spotted a man down along Washington Street Hill at Market Street, Tuesday. Police gave him a ride home.

Booked: Jessica L. Ash, 40, 2916 county Road 47, Toronto, probation violation/bench warrant, Tuesday.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 800 Lincoln Ave., high grass/weeds. Police said a notice had been issued previously but the property still has not been cut, so, per regulations, the current notice will be sent through certified mail. If it’s not addressed, the city law director will be asked to have the property advertised, cut and a lien assessed to cover the cost. The owner is deceased. Also, 801 Broadway Boulevard, high grass/weeds;

Cited: Brian r. Meyers, 43, 44 Coulter Estates Drive, Burgettstown, driving under suspension.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Overdose: A business owner reported a male overdosing in a parking lot in Adena, Tuesday. She said a female with the man had administered Narcan, “but his head was limp and bobbing from side-to-side.” No further information was available.

Payback: The manager of a property on Two Ridge Road said children had been left home alone, Tuesday. She said the mother had been taken away by ambulance and “then saw the father leave the complex shortly after.” Deputies went to the location and found the father at home with his children. He said he’d been home all morning and that he’d “argued with the property manager over people being in and out of his apartment and afterward she called police on him.”

Blocked: A man living in another state asked deputies to check on a family member who had moved to Mount Pleasant with his girlfriend, Tuesday. He said they’re living “in a very tiny house and have no jobs or car,” and said he recently found out they have 14 cats living with them and a water issue. He said he hadn’t heard from them in two weeks and is concerned he would become ill “due to the ammonia smell from the cats.” Deputies located the grandson, who said he is fine but he blocked the caller “because he didn’t want to talk with (him).”

Put it out: A caller in Yorkville was concerned about a “large fire” at a neighbor’s property, Wednesday. The fire department extinguished the flames. Deputies said they were unable to contact the homeowner.

Fore: A caller told deputies she saw a group of people “hitting golf balls into the river” at Pike Island Locks and Dam in Yorkville, Wednesday. No one was located.

Suspicious: Teens were seen “looking at properties” in the vicinity of state Route 151, Mingo Junction, Wednesday. The caller said they’ve had problems with break-ins in the area.

Trespassing: A woman was spotted at a property at the intersection of county Road 45 and township Road 375 even though she’d been told several times she is not to be there, Tuesday. Deputies were unable to locate her.
