Passenger charged: A Texas man is facing a felony charge after allegedly pushing a woman out of a vehicle Sunday in the 1000 block of Adams Street. Police said Steven Goode, 40, of Decatur admitted being in a truck and at a downtown club, “but … stated there was no female in the truck with him” before telling them he didn’t want to answer any more questions, then on the way to jail after inquiring what he was being charged with he allegedly told deputies “that girl just wanted to” perform a sex act, then went on to state “that girl” will not be in court “but he will, though.” Earlier in the week police had reported the woman told them she met the men about 10 minutes earlier and was headed to a hotel with the driver but needed to stop at home first when a man in the back seat shoved her out of the truck. At the time, police said she was “bleeding profusely” from her head, her face was covered with blood and as they spoke with her, she “started to lose consciousness and fell backward.” Police said the driver of the truck insisted he “had nothing to do” with the woman’s injuries, and when they asked him why anyone wanted her out of his vehicle told them “he must not have liked the way she was talking to him.” A preliminary hearing for Goode, charged with felonious assault, has been set for 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Taking charge: A woman in the midst of getting a divorce said a family member told her a female known to them had carried a safe out of the residence and took it to another property she and her estranged husband own, Monday. The caller said the safe “should contain family heirlooms, jewelry and coins” and said several times in the past her ex had “gotten into (it) and pawned the contents for (drugs).” She wanted the woman who moved the safe, formerly a “close friend” who is now involved with her ex, arrested, but police told her they would attempt to speak with the other woman. Police said they were unable to locate the woman who moved the safe but a younger male at the residence, identified as the caller’s son, told them he was “aware of the on-going fighting and back-and-forth” between his parents and “advised both to continue to fight over the safe.” He said the contents belong to both his parents “and that he was told are worth a lot of money.” He said he’d told the female suspect she should “get the safe to end the constant fighting between (his) parents.” He said he wasn’t sure if she’d done it but would have her call. Police confirmed the safe has been an ongoing thorn, with his mother allegedly trying to remove it herself several weeks ago.
Looking for answers: A man told police he was threatened by an employee at a North Sixth Street store because he wheeled his bike inside while he did his shopping, Monday. He claimed the employee told him no bikes are allowed in the store, and they had words, then as he was leaving “the employee entered his vehicle … (and) … pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and told him he would put a hole in his head.” The employee said the biker “became confrontational” after he told him bikes weren’t allowed inside the store and began to threaten him, though he couldn’t say what those threats were. He said the biker “began to walk out, then came back in and continued to argue.” Police said the biker was on the phone with dispatch when a voice in the background threatened to “put a hole in (his) head” and the employee told them “he did say that but he was referring to seeing (the biker) out on the street.” Police said they didn’t find a gun on the employee, though they did find an empty holster for a small semi-automatic pistol in the car’s rear door that the man said belonged to his son.
Out and about: An “incoherent male in a hospital gown” was reported in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Monday. Police found the man, who they said was gowned, “appeared to be dazed and spoke slowly” and did not appear to understand questions that were being asked. The man said he was having ankle pains and seizures and requested medical attention, so Steubenville firefighters took him to Trinity Medical Center West for treatment. He was advised not to leave the hospital because he has an outstanding warrant.
Forewarned: A Follansbee woman trying to sue a former friend who she says owes her about $3,600 wanted police to know the dispute revolves around a vehicle she bought from her, Monday. She told police she bought the vehicle for $2,000 but claims her former friend “will not turn the vehicle over even though she has the title.” She said she’d also loaned the woman another $1,600 “and has yet to be paid.” She showed police the title to the vehicle as well as other items proving her claims.
