Steubenville Police
Language of love: A man in the 200 block of South Fourth Street said he’d been “scratched … and (his apartment) destroyed” by a female friend he’d been drinking with, Friday. Police said he appeared to be intoxicated and she’d already left. While they were gathering information from him the woman called him and while the two of them were talking police said the complainant “told her he loved her.” Police said they asked him to cooperate with the investigation “and he insisted on talking to (her)” instead and ultimately decided he did not want to pursue charges against her “and was not going to be able to stay away from (her).” Later in the day the female requested assistance on South Commercial Street near Barclay Avenue, telling police “her legs and bones hurt and she could not breathe.” She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Making connections: An Adams Street resident told police her adult daughter “needed an ambulance and (had been) thrown from a vehicle,” Sunday. She said the vehicle had left the scene. Her daughter was “sitting on the sidewalk, bleeding profusely from her head” and had a bloody elbow. The daughter said she’d met a man at a nearby club about 10 minutes earlier and planned to go to a hotel for the night but she needed to stop at home first but once there, a male passenger sitting in the back seat “threw her from the vehicle.” She said the same man may have hit her before throwing her out of the car but she wasn’t sure. Police said there was a large lump on the back of her head and her face was covered in blood and as they spoke with her, “she started to lose consciousness and fell backwards.” While Steubenville firefighters were aiding the woman police located the vehicle she’d been in and said the driver told them he and a work friend had argued so he’d taken him back to their air b&b and after dropping him off he was going to the gas station. He told police he “had nothing to do” with the woman’s injuries. He said he’d only just met her at the club a few minutes earlier. Police said when they asked him again why his work friend would push her out of the vehicle said he “wanted her out of the vehicle and that he must not have liked the way she was talking to him.”
Muddled: A man flagged police down in the 600 block of Lawson Avenue to tell them he “believed he was shot” and needed an ambulance, Friday. He said he “was having a hard time breathing and was dizzy,” police reported, adding they didn’t see any gun wounds though he did have “cuts on his arm and his mouth was bleeding.” He didn’t have any weapons or illicit substances in his possession, and police said he told them he had no idea who was chasing him or why and believed he’d been in a garage when he was injured, though he had no idea where that garage was. Police eventually concluded he “may have fallen on the ground” and appeared to be very confused on the events of the night.
Radio head: An Arlington Avenue man told police a neighbor “was using a device to create frequencies that were entering his house,” Friday. Police talked with the neighbor, who allowed them to walk through her home “to ensure she had no devices creating frequency waves.” Police said they didn’t see anything out of the ordinary “nor anything that would create such frequencies.” The neighbor has an order of protection against the man and believes “this may be a way that (he can) harass her.”
That’s entertainment: Police said a group of people were seen near the dumpsters behind a property in the 200 block of North Seventh Street “and it appeared that two of them may have been involved in public indecency,” Friday. They’d all disappeared before police arrived.
Why stay: A caller reported seeing a couple by a Lincoln arguing in a parking lot on Mall Drive and that it turned violent, Saturday. The caller said the man “began to choke the female as he pressed her against the car” and then “yelled threats to (her) that he would kill her” before leaving the area on foot. The female then got in the car and “appeared to drive toward the male’s location.” They were both gone when police checked the area.
Floored: A caller in the 400 block of South Fifth Street reported hearing a physical altercation in a residence and a female yelling, “get off me,” Saturday. The male said he got up and stepped on his girlfriend’s bed, which woke her up. He told police she “was upset and began screaming at him.” Police asked him about a red mark on his chest but report he “would not go into detail, stating that he did not want to ‘incriminate’ anyone.” The female had a lump on her forehead that she told police she got when he “struck her with a pillow.” Police said when they asked her how a pillow could leave a lump she “became visibly upset and appeared afraid to state what actually took place.” She told police she is “sick of this situation and that she felt trapped.” The caller told police they’d been outside when they heard the female screaming “get off me” and “you’re hurting me” multiple times and were able to see the man straddling the female.
Police said they charged Brandon W. Keenen, 26, 431 S. Fifth St., Steubenville, with domestic violence, but before they could transport him to the jail he informed them there were “drugs” in the basement on a nightstand, and when asked who the drugs belong to told them “the only other person in the house,” then said he was “just (kidding.)” The female told them they could go into the basement where they said they found a bag with residue and glass pipes next to a debit card with (Kennen’s) name on it,” who he then said they belonged to another male. The paraphernalia was disposed of.
Batter up: One man was taken into custody after an altercation, “possibly involving a baseball bat,” was reported outside a business in the 2600 block of Sunset Boulevard, Saturday. Police said Jonathan P. Dennis, 46, 1244 ½ Wellesley Ave., Steubenville, was charged with assault after a witness produced a video that allegedly showed him “approaching (another man) and … bumping his chest … and then pushing him back against the SUV.” Police allege Dennis told them when he got out of a friend’s car, he “could hear very loud music coming from a white SUV” and he when he asked a woman in the vehicle to turn the volume down they argued but she told him the owner of the vehicle was inside the store. He said they went inside to find him and the two of them argued before going into the lot where there was some “pushing and shoving.” The female told police Dennis “was screaming at her and she was in fear (so she) took out a baseball bat to protect herself.” The SUV owner told police he wanted to pursue charges.
Newbie: A Buena Vista resident said she “recently started using social media and … feels as though she is being exploited online,” Saturday. Asked what she meant or if she could show them a post that concerned her, police said she could do neither “and could only say that she felt as though her name and image were being used for political purposes and she was being exploited.”
Boiling over: A city resident said he was assaulted by the mother of his children and her boyfriend, Saturday. He said he was walking to Circle K said when she “waved (him) down” but they started arguing. As he started to walk away, he said her boyfriend “grabbed him … from behind” but he managed to shrug him off. He said the boyfriend then asked him if he had “a line” and when he said no and kept walking, he was struck several times from behind. He told police he couldn’t remember anything that took place before or after he was assaulted, nor did he know if he’d been struck with an object. Police said his nose was bleeding and possibly broken, he was missing teeth and had a swollen lip.
Squatter’s squatting: Two people squatting in a house in the 300 block of McKee Street had to gather their things and leave, Saturday. The squatters said their friend was “renting it” and they were staying there while he was in jail. The actual owner of the property told police he was checking on it when he found them inside.

Tidying up: A caller reported a man “throwing garbage in the roadway” on University Boulevard near Wellesley Avenue, Friday. He told police he “was taking garbage from the sidewalk area and putting it in the roadway to make the sidewalk area clear,” but police advised him if he did not have the means to clean up the litter he needed “to just leave it alone.” He apologized for the inconvenience and was sent on his way.
Squabble: A Wilson Avenue resident reported a disturbance, Friday. When they arrived, police said her live-in boyfriend wanted her removed from his residence, but police determine she actually owns the property “and has lived (there) for several years.” Since all the two had done was argue, police told them both no one can be evicted without going through the eviction process.
Pushy: A caller said a man was pestering people for money outside a Hollywood Boulevard business and if they didn’t give him any, cursing them, Friday. Police said the man, known to them, “was taking money from an elderly man” as they arrived. He was advised to stop panhandling and that he is not to be cursing or yelling at customers or cause any further disturbances.”
Adding on: A man who allegedly left the hospital despite being warned he was not free to leave was taken into custody, Friday.
