Steubenville Police
Charged: Employees say a man who left the midtown Speedway last week without paying for a candy bar and T-shirt allegedly stopped on the way out to withdraw some money from the ATM and forgot to collect his debit card and receipts, Tuesday. Police said the man, John R. Taylor, 817 Rinker Road, Steubenville, was already in custody on unrelated charges so the information was forwarded to the prosecutor, who has since filed a misdemeanor theft charge against him.
Ouch: A man was working on his truck in the Rural King lot when a Jeep drove over his foot, Tuesday. The man driving the Jeep said he was pulling out of his parking space and didn’t realize the other man was working on his truck or that his legs were “hanging over the yellow line” into his space. A bystander said she didn’t see the accident “but heard yelling and (saw) the Jeep parked on (the man’s) foot when she got out.”
Bad break: A city resident said her ex has been “calling her non-stop because he doesn’t like her new boyfriend,” Tuesday. She said her ex threatened to call child protective services for child endangerment. He told police he was upset because her new boyfriend “is dirty and has bugs” and said he doesn’t want his child around the man. Police said the child’s grandmother has custody of the child but the parents “split every other weekend.” The male was told he’d have to pursue custody through the courts since they could not force her to keep her new boyfriend away from the child.
AWOL parents: Unsupervised juveniles were causing trouble in the 1200 block of Brondus Street, Tuesday. Residents said it’s the same group of juveniles causing the problems, but police said, “no one wanted to identify anyone or be identified.” Police spoke with several kids about respecting private property and being a good neighbor.
Moved along: Police said a woman seen sleeping on the steps outside a property on North Street was told she would have to leave, Tuesday.
No return: A man at a residence in the 700 block of Market Street said he lent his vehicle to a friend a day earlier so she could go to the store and would be right back but she hadn’t returned it, Wednesday. He said he tried calling, but a male answered and told him he’d have her call him back.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1305 Cardinal St., 509 Grandview Ave., 4819 White Oaks Drive, 1345 Euclid Ave., 1400 Euclid Ave., all for high grass/weeds. Also, 2661 Alvaredo Blvd., tires piled in driveway, scattered litter in the yard and driveway and a smoker trailer parked on the street, plus high grass/weeds.

Jefferson County Sheriff
Fraud reported: A man said he went to the store for groceries and discovered there was no money left on his Direct Express card, Monday. He said Direct Express told him the money had been moved to an account held by a woman with whom he’d “had a relationship” for 14 years before they broke up. He said he never gave her or anyone permission to access his account.
