Pushy: A Spring Avenue resident said a man who rents his downstairs space “came home from work (and) began yelling at him for not doing his dishes,” Thursday. The homeowner said when he told him not to talk to him like that, the man “threw him down the stairs” and broke his hand. He told police he wants to pursue charges against the man.
Hitting home: A woman was upset because her 16-year-old special needs son didn’t want to leave his father’s home, Friday. The boy’s father said he “frequently visits … when his (mother) becomes upset” because “yelling/arguing intimidates or frightens (him).” The father said his ex and the child had argued so he’d walked to his house to calm down, but she wasn’t happy about it as the child “advised his mother that he was running away from home.” The juvenile said he only left his mother’s residence because he “does not like the arguing that tends to take place,” police said. He told police he doesn’t need assistance and assured them he was fine at his father’s. Father and son both asked if he could stay there for the time being, which police did not object to though his mother was upset and said she “did not want her son staying at her ex-husband’s residence.” Police said she made “concerning statements” about why her son doesn’t want to live with her, mentioning “there being trash inside the residence along with having an issue with cockroaches.” After speaking with the woman, police told her that, given the circumstances, they “would not be forcing a child with disabilities to go back to such living conditions.”
Reported: A North Sixth Street resident claimed a man “threatened to assault her” at a city park, Thursday. She said she was in her car smoking when he “approached her with his fists in the air, stating that he was going to physically assault her” but didn’t, police reported. She told police she has no idea “why he continues to single her out and threaten her,” but when police talked to the male, he told them he had no idea what she was talking about and it’s not true. He said she’s made similar allegations in the past against him and other people assaulting her “or being out to get her.” Police said the woman “does suffer from (ongoing emotional emotional) and it’s unclear as to whether or not the…threats were actually made.”
Never good: Several people in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue reported “a large group of people coming into the North End, wanting to fight,” Friday. Police said no one was able to provide them with names of any of the individuals “or who they were after.”
Two for one: A caller reported finding an unconscious man in the front yard of his residence in the 2400 block of Cleveland Avenue, Thursday. Police said neighbors helped the man inside and he was alert, though “possibly under the influence of both narcotics and alcohol.” He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation, but once there caused a disturbance “wanting to leave the hospital.”
Issues: A city resident told police her son was “upset with her and began to yell” and intentionally urinated on the floor, Friday. She also said she was worried about his health because his breathing seemed “heavier” than usual, but police said when they talked to him they didn’t detect any problems. The son insisted it never happened and declined medical treatment.
Wrong crowd: Police said a woman in the 700 block of North Fifth Street wanted her live-in boyfriend gone because there “was a problem with people he brought to the apartment” and they argued, Friday. The woman accused him of “damaging some house plants on the porch” and said he needed to leave, police said. The man told police “his dog was inside the residence and he didn’t want to leave without it,” but she also claimed it was hers. Neither of them could prove ownership, so police advised the court would have to decide who gets the dog.
Free for all: A man in a purple minivan with temporary tags was upset when he tried to park in a private lot in the 200 block of North Fourth Street so he could go to the Fourth of July celebration downtown and was told he’d have to pay, Friday. The caller said the driver “began ripping the signs out of the parking lot and (putting) them in his van” and “became physical with a (third) man” who’d left the area before police arrived. The caller said he just wanted it documented in case the man returned and caused more problems.
Concerned: A city resident said he thinks a female had stolen “at least” 24 Garapentin tablets from him, Friday. The man told police the tablets are 400 milligrams each and he doesn’t want to pursue charges. He said he reported it because he “just wanted her to get help.”
Drugs: An unresponsive male was reported in the 3200 block of Sunset Boulevard, Friday. Steubenville firefighters revived the man with Narcan and sternum rubs, police said. A friend said he was unconscious when he found him.
More drugs: A woman reported her roommate had overdosed and was “thrashing her body on the (floor) in their living room in the 2700 block of Cleveland Avenue, Friday. Police said she was still thrashing when they arrived and an officer “attempted to help (her) relax and calm down” until firefighters arrived on scene and took her to the emergency room. Her roommate said she’d left the residence nearly three hours earlier and when she returned she found the woman unresponsive.
Second thoughts: A Texas man was upset because his wife wouldn’t get out of their car after they argued, Friday. Police told him it’s marital property so they couldn’t make her leave the car and said they urged him to separate for the evening, but he “did not want her to take the vehicle.” He eventually decided to park the vehicle and go to the Fourth of July celebration downtown to avoid further conflict, police said.
Good news, bad news: A man said he lost his wallet at Wal-Mart, but when it was turned in at the service desk it was missing the $1,100 that was in it, Thursday.
Robbed: Police were told a Slack Street property was broken into while the owner was away, Friday. The owner said someone “forced their way into his house and stole some of his property” and he would compile serial numbers for items he knows are missing.
Booked: Cole Charles Mullins, 31, 125 Bilby Lane, Follansbee, fugitive from justice (Brooke County), Friday. Mullins was taken into custody following a traffic stop at McDowell Avenue at Foster Place, police said; William R. Rutherford, 31, 1381 Sinclair Ave., Steubenville, warrant (Steubenville Municipal Court), Thursday; Shoffon Scipio, 55, 1432 Oak Grove Ave., Apt. 2, Steubenville, warrant (petit theft), Friday.
Code issues: A notice of violation was sent to owner/occupants of properties at 1809 William Place, 767 Woodlawn Road, high grass/weeds.
