Pitched a fit: A woman in the 700 block of North Seventh Street told police a male friend had coerced her into giving him $195, Sunday. She said they were in her apartment when he “started to yell at her.” She told police she told the man to stop yelling or leave but he refused to do either, so she ended up giving him $185 just to get him out the door. She said she didn’t want to pursue charges but she does want the money back.
Assault charged: A man was taken into custody after he allegedly sprayed mace in a Euclid Avenue residence during an argument, Monday, James Minniefield, 56, 1529 Pennsylvania Ave., Steubenville was charged with assault after they confirmed mace had been discharged in the home and that some of it actually got on a juvenile, police said. They said when they arrived at the location, a woman was outside the home with several of her children yelling and they had difficulty calming her. Eventually she told them Minnifield had come into her home with a female. She said she was upstairs when she heard “an excessive commotion downstairs,” and discovered he and the other woman were “arguing and fighting with one another” and claimed got his hands on a cannister of mace and sprayed it, filling the residence with it and covering her kids in the stuff. She said it was very difficult to breathe inside the resident, and when police went inside to check the property, they said the “entire living room area was, in fact, filled with mace and officers were barely able to breath indoors.” The child whose shirt had mace on it told police he had been struck with it. Steubenville firefighters transported the homeowner and her children to the hospital to ensure they were OK. An officer located the couple “arguing in the roadway on McDowell Avenue at Pennsylvania” but had to call for a backup to help him separate the pair. Police said Minniefield told them he was walking “home” and encountered the woman, who “allegedly began yelling at him and continued with name calling.” He claimed he tried to walk away, but she hit him, said a juvenile with her sucker-punched him and told police he also was “struck with a metal pole that was part of a trampoline.” Police said he did have a small cut on his lip. The female said she was at the Euclid location with her grandchildren when Minniefield “allegedly came over to take part in beer drinking” but then tried to take her “weed pen” away from her, which started the argument. She told police he tried to grab the key chain out of her hands and claimed that when he did, he found “started spraying (the mace) throughout the residence.” The woman told police she followed him because she wanted her keys back. Part of the key chain was allegedly found in Minniefield’s possession, police said.
Incompatible: A couple in the 200 block of South Fourth Street were “drinking heavily and arguing,” Sunday. Police said the two were arguing over the way in which the woman “was plating food.” He wanted her removed from the residence, but police told she had established residency and they could not make her leave.
Unauthorized use: A woman in the 400 block of South Fifth Street said the father of two of her children wrestled her for her car keys and broke her phone after she told him he couldn’t use her car because he has a suspended license and she doesn’t have insurance, Sunday. She said she also watches two of his kids from a previous relationship, and he loaded them, plus the two kids they share, into her car and drove away. He said he was taking them to East Liverpool. She told police she wanted the unauthorized use documented since she has no insurance coverage and in the event the vehicle is damaged, she may try to file charges.
Fraud: A Sherman Avenue resident told police a juvenile he knows “stole his credit card and used the money he had on it,” Sunday. He said it was the same juvenile he had trouble with earlier in the month but he did not want to pursue charges. He was advised to contact the card company to prevent any additional unauthorized use, but a short time later he called them back to report the juvenile he said took the card was in front of his home again. They reminded him he still needed to cancel the credit card.

Stewart was taken into custody after a traffic stop in the 200 block of North Third Street. Police allegedly spotted an open container, a white, rock-like substance believed to be cocaine on the driver’s seat and a used glass pipe.
Home alone: Cousins who were supposed to be keeping tabs on a pre-teen in the 4400 block of Lovers Lane left the child alone, Sunday. The child went to a neighbor’s to play, telling police later one of the cousins said “he was not coming back.” The neighbor advised the child could remain at her home while neighbors tracked down the child’s mom.
Charged: Victoria Grimes, 41, 145 Christopher Ave., Wintersville, petit theft, Sunday. Grimes allegedly skip-scanned merchandise at Wal-Mart by stacking one item and bagging another several times, employees said. An underage female pushing the shopping cart told employees she was unaware of the alleged theft, so she was not charged, they said.
No vacancy: Police found a man sleeping in the first shelter house at Beatty Park, Monday. After advising him the park was closed, they said he gathered his things and left.

Bluster: Two men yelled and cursed at each other at a work site on Jefferson State Lake, June 13. Deputies said the caller claimed another worker got “in his face, verbally attacking him,” but it never got physical though he said the other man “chest-bumped” him. He said he was delivering a new tank to the work site when another worker came out and started loosening the straps, and claims when he told the man not to do it he “began yelling and screaming at him.” Others said it was the caller yelling at the other guy that prompted the outburst and reported the two men “got close to one another (and were) screaming obscenities at each other.” The other worker said it was “blown out of proportion.”
