Woodland was cited for failure to control, police said.
Unhappy: A city resident is facing charges after a disturbance in the 400 block of South Fifth Street, Wednesday. Residents said a couple was arguing and when the male tried to leave with a friend the female followed him and began arguing with the male and his friend who was driving, then punched the windshield as they tried to leave. The punchy female would say only that the dispute had turned physical and that she “had to defend herself.” She admitted punching the windshield but said the men inside were “yelling obscenities at her and it felt like the driver … was trying to hit her.” The driver said he and his family were walking to the vehicle when he saw the couple arguing outside, telling police the punchy female approached his vehicle “screaming and acting aggressive.” He said he was trying to leave but she was in front of it and punched the windshield before he could leave, telling police he hadn’t talked to her male companion for several hours and said he thinks she was upset with him because she “believed (they) were smoking crack … earlier in the day.” The driver said “his two juvenile children were in the vehicle and may have been hit by glass” but refused medical treatment for them. Bystanders told police the female companion had been at the driver’s residence prior to the call, after which her male companion “came over to her residence and began fighting with (her),” quickly escalating to the point where the couple was actively fighting. Police said Maleah D. Fletcher, 34, 425 S. Fifth St., was charged with criminal mischief.
