Cheating hearts: A woman reported a disturbance in the 3100 block of Central Avenue, Tuesday. Police said the woman, who was intoxicated, told them she’d been drinking with a male friend and they started arguing about a civil matter involving another individual and claims at one point the male “grabbed her by the front of her shirt, causing her necklace to break” so she “grabbed a dog leash and hit him (with it).” He fled on foot, bleeding, and tried to flag a passing ambulance down, police said. The male involved was also drunk, police said, and told them they’d been drinking and she “snapped” but he didn’t know why, and said he remembered “feeling something across his face and went unconscious.” When he came to he said the female was “staring at him with a surprised look on her face” and initially thought she’d shot him in the back of his head “due to the blood running down his neck.” He said he walked into the street and was nearly struck by an ambulance and ended up walking to the hospital for treatment of what he thought was a gunshot wound. Police said he made a comment about “double dipping” on the female and said he received texts on his phone “insinuating that he may have been caught cheating on (her).”
Distressed: A caller reported a man in a Hollywood Plaza parking lot holding a baby and looking distressed, Tuesday. Police located the man, who said he was watching the sleeping infant while her mother was inside the store but the baby woke up “and began to cry once she noticed her mother was gone.” He said everything was fine and he’d already called mom to hurry back.
Hot mess: A city resident was taken into custody after a caller reported a broken window in the 300 block of Highland Avenue, Tuesday. Police said Jacqueline Gilbert, 45, 314 Highland Ave, was charged with criminal mischief after allegedly telling police she broke the rear window of a white Jeep and also shattered a piece of pottery in front of the porch. Gilbert initially had told police she was only there to drop a man off at the residence and claimed she’d been assaulted by a woman who lives there and wanted to pursue charges. Police were unable to make contact with the woman she’d named but said another woman came to the door who said the Jeep belonged to her and claimed Gilbert followed her through downtown Steubenville and “struck the rear of (her) vehicle repetitively,” and after she parked the car threw an object at it, breaking the rear window. She also told police she wanted to pursue charges. Police also spoke with the male at the center of the controversy, who said Gilbert did not ram the other woman’s car “but he does not know what happened outside the residence after he was dropped off.”
Summoned: Employees at Kroger said a woman tried to leave the store with nearly $150 in merchandise she hadn’t paid for, Tuesday. They said she dropped the bag and fled on foot when she was stopped at the door. Police said when they located a woman matching the description in the school parking lot, she told them she’d left the items in the store. Nicole M. Sutton, 41, 410 Pittsburgh St., Steubenville, was issued a summons to appear in Municipal Court on a theft charge, police said.
Target: A woman in the 800 block of Market Street said someone sliced her driver side tires while it was parked in the building’s lot, Tuesday.
Snatched: A Lincoln Boulevard resident said she unloaded three plastic totes from her vehicle and put them in her yard by her porch and when she went back for them a few hours later, they were gone, Tuesday. She said the totes contained numerous craft items, including 50 hats, six wooden shelves and three rechargeable lights.
