Steubenville Police
Fishy business: A customer was causing problems at an eatery in the city on Tuesday. Employees said he “was complaining about his food and demanding a refund.” The man told police “his food smelled funny, and he wanted his money back,” but when police pointed out they couldn’t force the employees to give him anything he walked away.
Overstepped: A woman in the 400 block of South Sixth Street said she was sitting on her back porch when a man she’d never seen before walked up and engaged her in conversation, “then asked for a hug,” Tuesday. She said after she hugged him, he “began to say some inappropriate things to her” before leaving the area.
A caller reported seeing two people sleeping in the underpass on Sunset Boulevard near Brady Circle, Tuesday. Police had to wake the pair up and tell them to move along.
Mother may I: A resident in the 700 block of North Fourth Street complained he was being harassed, Tuesday. He told police “his mother came into the residence and tried to kick everyone out.”
Begone: A woman on Fourth Street at South Street said a man was “arguing with her and following her around the downtown area,” Tuesday. She told police she just wanted him to leave her alone. He was gone before police arrived.
No trace: Someone complained that people were “moving items from an abandoned house to the garage,” Tuesday. Police said there was no one on the property when they checked it.
Served: Tiffany Brandt, 28, 25 Christopher Ave., Apt. C, warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, Tuesday; Ashley Aguilera, 34, 5 Maplewood Drive, Steubenville, bench warrant, Monday.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 634 Oakmont Ave., 1219 Wellesley Ave., 1332 Wellesley Ave., 1334 Wellesley Ave., 998 McKinley Ave., 624 Pine St., 4819 White Oaks Drive, all for high grass/weeds; Also, 1257 Lincoln Ave., high grass/weeds, scattered litter, junk and tires; 607 McDowell Ave., high grass/weeds, poison ivy/sumac growing on residence; 998 McKinley Ave., litter, tires and household items piled on side of residence; 436 Lawson Ave., couches and household items pilled behind residence and two detached garages.
Cited: Ivan T. Thompson, 40, 719 North Fourth St., Steubenville, driving under suspension; Tray’Marr Moten, 1648 Roosevelt Ave., Steubenville, one-way street violation and no operator’s license.

Lesley S. Martinez, 21, 3185 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton, obstructing an officer, May 21, arrested following a domestic disturbance
Mark Lee Crowell, 48, 3703 Orchard St., Weirton, fugitive from justice, May 27, arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Jefferson County Sheriff
Hijinks: A caller said juveniles in a grey Ford Mustang appeared to be “shooting a shotgun into the river” near the entrance to Yellow Creek Campgrounds along county Road 7C near township Road 307, Monday. The caller said it appeared they were just “shooting into the water” and it didn’t seem malicious, but deputies checked the area anyway. Neither the individuals nor any shotgun shells were located.
Rocked: A Federal Express driver reported someone on township Road 281, Steubenville, had thrown rocks at his truck, Monday. Deputies said the vehicle was not damaged, and they were unable to locate the offenders.

Charged: Jessica L. Haught, 43, 556 Banfield Ave., third-offense shoplifting, Tuesday.
Wellsburg Police
Charged: Mark D. Snyder, 40, 271 Putnam Lane, Weirton, failure to appear, Tuesday.
West Virginia State Police
Charged: Belinda S. Porter, 35, and Shane M. Brown, 35, both of 906 Neville St., Follansbee, both for failing to register on the state registry for child neglect, Tuesday.
