Patrons were briefly evacuated from Seven Ranges after three “older teens wearing coats, one (of them also) with a blue ski mask on” caused problems and sprayed fire extinguishers in the business and several mall units. A technician advised he was in a private room working on a video game when the trio “barged into his work space” so he confronted them. They then fled into a restricted area with no exit and this time when he confronted them they “surrounded him in a hostile manner,” one of them “reaching into his front pocket before they tackled him to the ground” and one of them “threw punches at him” and then fled, “setting off several fire extinguishers, (covering) everything in a powder” and triggered the fire alarms. Police followed the trail into the mall, finding more fire extinguishers had been sprayed in two empty units. The mall and the entertainment complex were searched, but the miscreants had fled.
Jumped, assaulted: A man in the 2100 block of Sunset Boulevard was bleeding and said two young males jumped him, Sunday. He said one of them “pulled out a gun and demanded his wallet” but he refused and “tried to grab the weapon, without success” and the pair “began assaulting him.” He said they “stole a large amount of money along with his cell phone and wallet.” Police said they spoke with two individuals sleeping in the underground walkway on Sunset just east of (Harding) school who said they heard an altercation “that sounded close to them” but weren’t sure where it took place.
Bad move: Callers reported a male at the wheel of maroon Ford Ranger with Pennsylvania plates had blocked a driveway in the 2699 block of Hollywood Boulevard, Saturday. Police said the driver was passed out on the front seat “with a bag of cheddar flavored gold fish … on his chest” and it took several tries to wake him up, and when they did his “pupils (appeared) to be pinpointed, his speech was extremely slurred,” and he was “unsteady on his feet and appeared completely disoriented” and unsure of where he was. He declined further medical attention and police moved his vehicle, then cautioned him “to make arrangements for a ride” because he couldn’t drive. They said they waited while he made a phone call, but shortly after ending it they said he started his vehicle, so they towed the vehicle and charged the driver, identified as Cole C. Mullins, 30, of Uniontown with operating a vehicle under the influence.
Party of one: Callers said a woman camping under the Washington Street underpass was “yelling at vehicles as they passed by,” Friday. Police said they found her sitting on the sidewalk with her “bags, food, cigarettes, clothing, trash and other items” spread throughout the area. They said she’s been told many times she can’t stay there and cannot obstruct the sidewalk, and she agreed to leave, but “due to previous interactions” they knew she would linger until they got another call, so they told her they weren’t leaving until she removed all her things and herself. The woman “became irate” and began gathering her things, police said, but after two trips up the stairs and placing her things on the train tracks, she said she wasn’t doing anymore and “we could clean the area.” Later, a caller reported someone “screaming and yelling” and another officer found the same woman in the 200 block of North Fourth Street “sitting on the stairs, being loud.” She said she was just staying out of the rain.
Helping hands: Police said bystanders spotted an elderly female on the ground at North Seventh Street at McCook Boulevard and were holding her up to keep her from falling again, Friday. They said they found her with her “upper body still in the roadway” and stopped to help, then realized she “could barely walk on her own without assistance.” Police said it appeared she was having a medical issue and called for an ambulance, but she said she wanted to go home. Police told her that she would have to go to the hospital because she could not walk or stand unaided and was barely able to speak so they couldn’t figure out where she lived.
Booked: A man who allegedly assaulted the manager at Wash Rite was taken into custody, Friday. Police said James Threet, 41, was booked into the county jail without bond.
Had too much: Police spotted a man “asleep on the sidewalk” next to the Hawk gas station in the 700 block of Adams Street, Saturday. They said he was “highly intoxicated” so they gave him a ride back to his apartment.
Rowdy bunch: A caller reported hearing screams from a hallway at a building in the 800 block of Market Street, Saturday. Police said as they pulled into the parking lot they heard “what appeared to be a large crowd” at an apartment, but they got quiet when police entered the building. A short time later, a male exited the apartment and advised him of the noise complaint.
