Steubenville Police
Apprehended: City police officers assisting a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy at a traffic stop took a man into custody Thursday in connection with a recent shoplifting incident at Rural King. Police said Michael C. Fix, 53, no fixed address, was booked into the county jail on a bench warrant, misdemeanor theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after police spotted him and realized he matched the description of a person of interest in the recent theft of a chainsaw from Rural King. They allegedly found a cigarette pack with two glass pipes inside at his feet.
Didn’t stop: A man driving a semi told police he was eastbound in the left lane on Veterans Bridge when another tractor-trailer driver went through the stop sign in the construction zone and clipped the passenger side of his rig, Thursday. Police said the damage was above the tire.
Friends no more: A woman complained she’s being harassed by a former friend, Thursday. She said it started “several months ago over her losing several thousand dollars of her friends’ jewelry.” She said they last talked “two or three months ago,” and she’s filed “at least three other reports concerning what she feels is harassment.” The caller said she was at work that day when the former friend called her to say she would “meet her after work,” which she interpreted as a threat. The caller said she was walking across the road to her car when (the former friend) “accelerated her vehicle and almost struck her.” Police advised her to pursue a protection order, then talked with the former friend who advised the caller “was not using the crosswalk and it appeared to her that (the caller) darted in front of her vehicle.”
No work, no play: A juvenile living in the 1200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue told police his mother “was abusing him,” Thursday. Police said the boy was “upset due to chores that his mother had asked him to do.” His mom agreed he was upset when she gave him chores to do “and (then) took his phone.” Police said they were able to calm the child down.
Cited: A man allegedly “passed out in the middle of a kids’ playground” in the 700 block of Market Street, Thursday. Police said he woke up while Steubenville firefighters were tending him and said he was okay, but police allege he had “slurred speech and pinpoint pupils” and had difficulty maintaining his balance. Police said Rocco Longo, 39, 465 Lincoln Blvd., Steubenville, was cited for public intoxication.
Partied hard: A caller reported a possible overdose in the 100 block of N. 7th Street, Thursday. Police said the woman involved told them she’d been drinking at a local establishment and was walking to the shelter where she’d been staying. Steubenville firefighters said they had no need to administer Narcan “but she was unable to answer all of (their) questions” so she was taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.
Road warrior: A woman under the Washington Street overpass was “yelling at passing vehicles,” Thursday. Police told the woman she couldn’t stay there, and she left the area.
Booked: Three men were taken into custody after an alleged disturbance in the 900 block of McKinley Ave., Thursday. Charged with assault were David Edward Hanlin Sr., 61, David Edward Hanlin Jr., 35, and Jeffrey Hanlin, 34, all of 988 McKinley Ave. Others taken into custody: William Robinson, 58, 313 Hill Ave, Steubenville, warrant (Steubenville Municipal Court), Thursday; Lawrence R. Hicks, 36, 463 S. 4th St., Steubenville, burglary, Thursday.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1247 Oregon Ave., 1345 Oregon Ave., 2015 Oregon Ave., 1526 Euclid Ave., 1535 Euclid Ave., 2011 Euclid Ave., 718 Broadway Blvd., 815 Broadway Blvd., 2314 Chestnut St., all for high weeds/grass. Also, 1219 Oregon Ave., litter and old cabinets in the back yard, high grass/weeds.
Jefferson County Sheriff
Puzzler: A Hammondsville woman claimed a female in her home “was on meth and had (told a family member) she wanted to die and there was meth in the house,” Wednesday. The caller told deputies she had served the woman with an eviction notice and was concerned about her well-being, but the family member the woman allegedly had told she wanted to kill herself made no mention of it when deputies spoke with her. The woman who’d been evicted showed no sign of being impaired or emotionally distressed, and deputies said she denied thoughts of harming herself or using drugs and said the family “is trying to get rid of her.”
Sounds fishy: A Christopher Avenue resident said he was having issues with the gaming platform “Steam” and a communications application, Discord, Wednesday. He told deputies he’d partnered with a female in Russia regarding graphics and design for a project he was working on, but the female had “vanished and … has not answered him back and he believed ‘they’ had her’.” Deputies said when they asked him who “they” were, he told them there were “multiple unknown gamers after him (who) continue to contact him.” He was advised to block the usernames that were causing him issues online and change his passwords, if necessary.
Served: Christopher H. Britton, 42, 209 Cadiz Road, Wintersville, warrants for receiving stolen property (Wintersville County Court) and failure to appear (Jefferson County Common Pleas Court), Wednesday.
