Steubenville Police

Needs help: Someone reported seeing a man unresponsive next to a motorcycle at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and North Sixth Street, Saturday. Police said they “nudged and shook him” for about 30 seconds before he roused. He initially told police all was well and he was just tired, but they’d noticed his face and hands were covered in open sores, which is most commonly associated with hard drug use of long periods of times, and told him they weren’t looking to arrest him and would rather he seek professional help. He initially said it had been several weeks since he used drugs but police said that, “given his current appearance and obvious sickness,” they could “clearly tell (that) wasn’t true” and he admitted it had only been a couple days since he used heroin. Police called for an ambulance since he “had nearly ‘nodded off’ several times” while they were speaking to him.

Help not wanted: A caller reported seeing a man sleeping in the bushes in the 1000 block of North Sixth Street, Friday. Police identified the man, who said he “was enjoying the day and did not need any assistance.”

Grabby: A “visibly intoxicated” male grabbed his female companion by the hair, Saturday. He was sitting on the porch when police arrived and refused to tell them what was going on. She said his medicine does not seem to be working as of late, and that day he’d been drinking vodka and Kool-Aid. She wanted him to go to the hospital for treatment but he refused, so she went to stay with a family member for the night so he could sober up.

Nuisance: A woman had to be removed from the midtown Speedway, Friday. Employees said she was “bothering patrons and attempting to sell her food stamp card.” She left while police were en route.

Slept it off: A building manager asked police to remove an intoxicated male from a property in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Friday. Police said he had an alcoholic beverage in his hands and was slurring his speech so they told him he needed to leave the property. After speaking with him about the incident, police gave him a ride to his residence and took his bicycle to the police station for safekeeping.

Flipped: A vehicle flipped on its roof with its front end resting against a building in the 2500 block of Sunset Boulevard, Saturday. The driver was not injured and told them he blacked out while driving and “the next thing he knew he was sitting upside down in his vehicle.” Police said he showed no signs of being impaired and said it was determined he had possibly suffered a medical condition. They said the front and both sides of the vehicle were damaged, as was the side of the business.

Uncooperative: Police were asked to stand by at Lovers Lane and Sunset Boulevard while an Ohio State Highway Patrol officer dealt with a female driver passed out at the wheel of her vehicle, Saturday. OSHP said the woman was “refusing to put the vehicle in park and was intoxicated.” A second trooper arrived at the scene, police said, and the woman was taken into custody.
