Steubenville Police
Attacked: Two people told police they were northbound in the 400 block of South Sixth Street when a woman threw a rock at them, striking the car just above the rear tire. After the driver parked the car, they said the same female came up to the car and began to kick the passenger side door and threatened them. The driver told police she wanted to pursue charges, and police said there was a dent where the rock hit and scuff marks on the door. Police said the suspect, Nashay Wise, 26, 1130 Lincoln Ave., Apt. D, Steubenville, told them “she got high and admitted to striking the vehicle with the rock and kicking the vehicle.” Wise was booked into the county jail on charges of criminal mischief, menacing and possession of drug paraphernalia, a used crack pipe, police said.
In custody: Employees at McDonald’s reported a woman in the lobby “had been there for a prolonged period of time,” Monday. They said she ordered food and fell asleep before eating anything and as they were trying to stir her so they could close the lobby “she would wake up and then fall right back to sleep.” Police said she told them she was waiting on a ride, but it was “still several hours away,” but they discovered a warrant for her arrest, and she was taken into custody. Police said Amber S. Burrows 25, 278 Township Road 457, Irondale, was held on a warrant out of Belmont County alleging failure to appear.
On the loose: A 2-year-old was spotted walking unattended in the 1100 block of Oak Grove Avenue, Monday. When they arrived at the scene police were told a sibling had retrieved the toddler and then spoke with the sibling, who told them their mom was in school. A neighbor who watches them from time-to-time offered to keep the kids until their mom got home.
Cited: Police saw a white Mitsubishi fail to stop for a school bus unloading children with its stop sign displayed and flashers on, Monday. Police said the juvenile at the wheel was cited.
On fire: A vehicle caught fire on state Route 7 just past the Lincoln Avenue on ramp, Monday. Police said the engine compartment had caught fire and was spreading into the passenger cabin. They said the vehicle was off the roadway, but traffic was stopped until the fire department arrived to extinguish the flames. The owner said he saw a little bit of smoke coming from the hood, so he pulled over, and when he lifted the hood, he saw flames in the engine so he “backed away and contacted 9-1-1.”
Disturbance: A Johnson Road resident said a male who had been drinking “was becoming aggressive,” Monday. The female said he’d been violent in the past but nothing had happened that day, but she wanted him to “settle down and go inside for the night.” Police said the male was intoxicated and told them he just wanted to watch a movie by himself and (the two women at the location) would not leave him alone, but he went in for the night.
Booked: Christopher J. Rice, 47, Jewett Road, Steubenville, fugitive from justice, Monday. Police said Rice, spotted at the wheel of a white Hyundai Sonata, is wanted in Tennessee for an unspecified offense. The warrant had a nationwide pickup zone, they said.
Kid zone: A caller reported “her children were acting up and would not go to bed,” early Tuesday. Police made contact with the resident who police said did have “several awake children” though she told them she didn’t call.
Booked: Jayson Noble, no age or address listed on report, warrant, Monday.
Jefferson County Sheriff
On the prowl: A caller reported two juveniles walking along Commercial Street at Gladys Avenue, Mingo Junction around 3 a.m., Tuesday. The caller told deputies they were unsure if the kids were trying to look into vehicles, but it seemed an odd hour for them to be out.
Panhandling: Employees at a truck stop in Wintersville said a man “had been asking customers for money or a ride,” Tuesday. They said he’d gone outside and was lying on the ground by the side of the building. Deputies gave him a ride to Urban Mission but they couldn’t accept him, so he said he was going to walk to a friend’s house.
