Steubenville Police

Hands off: A woman said her husband hit her above her ear, Monday. She told police she was trying to work on her relationship with him, so he’s been staying there off and on, but she saw a text message on his phone “that led to the altercation.” She said she asked him to go outside and talk with her, but once there she addressed him with a derogatory term “and he struck her with a closed fist.” Police said they didn’t see any obvious injury to her head, but noted she’d said the injury was in her hairline and had a bump. A bystander confirmed her account. Police were unable to locate her husband. She requested charges be filed.

Scene stealer: An Oakmont Avenue man said his ex showed up at his home requesting items she’d left there but then started “throwing his porch furniture around and making a scene,” Sunday. Police said several walkway lights were damaged and the cushions to his porch furniture had been thrown in a neighbor’s yard. The female told police she would leave if she got her things back, so they arranged for the man to bag her items up and drop them off at the police station for her to pick up. She was advised not to return to his residence.

Peace restored: A Sherman Avenue man arguing with his girlfriend was convinced she intentionally locked him out of their Sherman Avenue home, Sunday. Police said the woman said she hadn’t meant to do it. They said the argument was over and he went into the house.

Slammed: A Parkdale Road couple was “arguing over their son’s room and who would clean it,” Sunday. The female said she was leaving the room when he slammed the bedroom door hitting her in the head while he admitted closing the door but said he didn’t realize it hit her. She said “nothing physical had taken place” so police told the two of them to stay away from each other “so things could settle down.”

Over with: A woman said she and her now-ex boyfriend were arguing at a St. Charles Drive residence when he took her phone and threw it on the ground, Sunday. He had already left the area on foot, so police gave the female a ride to her home in Follansbee.

Story time: A woman in the 200 block of South Fourth Street complained there were two dogs loose and standing in front of her door, blocking her from entering the property, Sunday. She said she’s afraid of the dogs due to a prior involvement, but police said when they pulled up the dogs were in their cage. Their owner said they were locked in their cage the whole time and were never in front of her door.

False alarm: Someone reported a fight in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue, Sunday. Police said they talked to several people at the location “and all advised that nothing of the sort had taken place.”

Foot race: A city resident who allegedly fled a traffic stop ended up in police custody, Sunday. John Ryan Yoder, 45, 619 Grandview Ave., Steubenville, was charged with driving under suspension and obstruction after he exited his car and ran into a wooded area on Park Street at Grandview, police reported. Yoder also was served with a federal warrant for a probation violation, they said.

Not permitted: Police warned a resident riding a dirt bike on Euclid Avenue at Carnegie that it’s not allowed in Steubenville, Sunday.

Shadowed: A man on foot on Lawson Avenue claimed he was being followed by a man and woman dressed all in black, Sunday. He said they turned onto State Street. Police checked the area but didn’t find anyone.

Served: Quetilla Harris, 44, 613 Pine St., Apt. A, Steubenville, warrant for assault and disorderly conduct, Monday.

Booked: Susan Plants, 52, 826 Neville St., Follansbee, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Saturday.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Dumb move: A caller reported a Two Ridge Road resident had been severely injured by two men who forced their way into his apartment, Saturday. Deputies said the victim had a swollen black eye and a small cut that was bleeding and three women who tried to break up the altercation all said they had been roughed up in some way, one of them pregnant, whom was one of the assailants elbowed in her stomach when he fell on her. Another said she was punched in the face. One of them, the ex-girlfriend of one of the suspected assailants, said they’d been arguing throughout the day and he “was intoxicated and … being aggressive.” The male victim said the suspect became especially agitated because the victim’s father had refused to give him a cigarette because he was drunk and didn’t know him. The male victim told deputies the man was yelling at his father and when he told him he “didn’t need to be talking to (him) like that” and disrespecting his father, so the man started yelling and threatening him before he left and also texted the ex-girlfriend that “she doesn’t know who he has coming for her and the people around her.” The male victim said he’d heard a light knock at the door and when he answered it didn’t see anyone until the men rushed at him, one of them holding him in a headlock while the other punched him.

Truth be told: A Smithfield woman said her boyfriend hit her so she left the property, May 25. She told deputies he put his hands around her neck and choked her, but she refused medical attention. The boyfriend said they were arguing and when she threw a cup at him, he put his hands on her face and told her to “stop screaming and throwing things.” He denied anything else occurred and said he just wanted her to leave, which she’d already done.

Bad reaction: A county resident reported a break in while she was at work, Sunday. She said the intruder also ransacked her home and showed deputies a broken picture frame. Her clothes had also been thrown around, her mattress was missing, items in the living room had been tossed around, a lotion dispenser emptied in the sink, medicine dumped in the sink and a TV in the kitchen knocked over. When deputies asked, she told them she’d recently broken up with a male who was upset because she was seeing someone. She said he’d sent her a video of himself driving to her residence.

Hanging on: A woman said her ex was causing problems and refused to leave, May 16. She said he’d posted indiscreet photos of her on social media and had slashed her tires.

Mow mine: A Bloomingdale woman complained that her neighbors were mowing her grass “and possibly following her,” Sunday.
