Charges filed: Two men are facing charges after an alleged incident in the Rayland area, May 11. Deputies said James Jones, 19, 1209 4th St., Toronto, was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault, resisting arrest and felony burglary, while Jack Reese, 24, also of 1209 4th St., Toronto, was charged with misdemeanor assault. The Rayland victim told deputies he was eating pizza when Reese and another man walked into his home in Belle Haven Apartments without being invited and pummeled him, leaving him with “significant swelling and bruising of his face” before fleeing the scene. A deputy who subsequently located the pair at another location alleges he witnessed Jones knock a pregnant woman over a chair and then jump on her male companion, fighting with him and biting his forearm. Reese was being detained when the second assault allegedly took place and was not part of that incident, and claimed he hadn’t entered the Rayland victim’s home despite the victim being adamant two men had attacked him, deputies said.

Convoluted: A woman walked out of the municipal building after police asked a male “what the issue was” following an argument between the two of them, May 8. Police said the male told them she’d accused him of taking a “spa” from her property and insisted he “had no knowledge of the property and had not performed any work she was claiming he did.” When they called her, she told them “her unbuilt hot tub was stolen” but she didn’t want to pursue charges because she’d planned to get rid of it soon, telling them it “was faulty and a fire hazard.” She said she wanted the male to know it was dangerous “and didn’t want someone to be injured and her to be (held) liable.” Police explained to her that if it was taken without her permission, she couldn’t be responsible for any damages. She claimed he’d moved it from her backyard to her front yard a few weeks ago. He said he hadn’t done any work for her for nearly a year because he’d been called names. She said she’d followed the male to the police station “as he said he was going to press charges for harassment, and she was calling his bluff.”
Missed the can: Police were asked to investigate after village officials received complaints a Petrick Avenue resident was “(throwing) beer cans…out a window into the yard where juveniles played nearby,” May 7. They said no one came to the door when they went to the residence but noted “beer cans in the back yard and cigarette carts in the front,” so they posted a notice of the community’s uncollected garbage regulation on the front door.
Agitated: A woman complained she’d been fired from her job at a local business because “her husband’s girlfriend wrongly accused her of threatening her,” May 4. She asked police if she could file a lawsuit, and they told her only that she could try to do that at the courthouse. She told them she planned to confront her husband about his affair that night.
