Police reports

Steubenville Police

Fenced in: A driver crashed into a fence “on the back side of the first field about 50-60 feet up a hillside” on Stanton Boulevard, Friday. Police said the driver fled the scene, taking the keys but leaving an open container of alcohol behind in the drivers’ door storage pocket. The vehicle was towed.

Kids, alcohol, no supervision: A large party was reported in the 2500 block of Cleveland Avenue, Sunday. Police said “multiple people” were gathered outside the residence and on the side porch, most of them headed indoors as they approached. A juvenile who came outside told police her parents weren’t home but her mom was in Bloomingdale. Police reached out to her mom, who said she would call her daughter and tell her to send people home. They said not long after that, they had to call an ambulance for a “juvenile having a medical emergency” and when they contacted the mother again, she said she would come home. Police said there were empty beer cans in the yard and driveway.

BYOB: Police ordered a tow truck after the juvenile hosting a large party in the 2500 block of Cleveland Avenue told police she couldn’t find the juvenile who’d parked his car in front of a resident’s driveway, Sunday. After the tow truck was called a youth showed up who said the car was his and asking why it was being towed. The officer told him he wasn’t moving it and sent him to speak with the officer breaking up the party, who eventually canceled the tow. Police issued the boy a ticket for blocking the driveway and confiscated what was left of a 12-pack of Busch Apple in the back seat “as well as several emptied shot-sized beverages in a bag.”

Handle with care: A woman in the 400 block of South Fourth Street said someone smeared dog excrement on her car door handle, Saturday. She told police she didn’t see it happen but suspects a neighbor with whom she has had trouble in the past.

Throwing things: A woman in the 500 block of South Fourth Street said a man who was “highly upset” threw a walker at her, Friday. She told police the walker hit her in the stomach. Police said she doesn’t want to pursue charges but she wanted him “kicked out of the residence.” He wasn’t there when police arrived so they told her she’d have to have him evicted.

Bad situation: Police were told a man was throwing things and yelling, upsetting a family member who was present, Friday. He was gone when police arrived and the family member was unsure why he was so upset or what it was he was yelling. Police said the woman told them she hadn’t taken steps to have him evicted, as they had previously recommended, because she “didn’t want to do that to (him)” though she is afraid to be in the residence with him. They also told her she could go to the A.L.I.V.E. shelter but she was unwilling to do that, either, and didn’t want social services involved.

Smoked out: A Terrace Avenue woman allegedly threw a metal pole at her male companion because he was grilling and the smoke bothered her, Saturday. The male said she’d been complaining and when he went inside to shut the door she threw the pole at him, hitting him in the calf. Police said there was a small mark on his calf but he did not require medical attention and he wasn’t interested in pursuing charges. Police said they attempted to speak with the female but she “was highly intoxicated.” Later, she showed them a small mark on her stomach and claimed the male had assaulted her but, “due to her being (drunk) police convinced her to go back into her residence and calm down for the night.”

Either-or: A caller in the 1200 block of Oregon Avenue reported hearing “either five shots fired or fireworks” but wasn’t sure which, Saturday. Police spoke with others in the area who told police they thought it was fireworks.

Not talking: Callers reported a disturbance in the 1300 block of Oregon Avenue, Sunday. The boyfriend told police he and his girlfriend had argued. They couldn’t talk to the girlfriend because she was upstairs “and refused to come outside” to speak with them, but police said there were no signs there had been a physical confrontation.

Charged: Employees at Kroger told police a man walked out of the store with a basket full of merchandise he hadn’t paid for, Friday. Kyle C.E. Gordon, 30, 260 Lawson Ave., Steubenville, was issued a summons for misdemeanor theft. Employees valued the merchandise and shopping crate at $106.

Charged: A city resident is facing charges after allegedly fleeing Kroger in the passenger seat of a black Honda Fit with a shopping basket loaded with merchandise she hadn’t paid for, Friday. Police said Giorne M. Manson, 29, 1434 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, was charged with theft as well as possession of a drug abuse instrument. Police reported finding a Kroger shopping basket filled with groceries at her feet and a glass pipe was stuffed between her seat and the center console.

Playing footsy: A resident in the 300 block of South Fourth Street said a man kicked his door in and stole items from his home, Friday. He said he wasn’t home when it happened so he didn’t see who kicked his door nor was he certain anything was taken. Police said the door had been damaged, so they told him if he found anything missing he should notify them.

Cited: Ronald L. Evans, 32, 726 Kendall Ave., Steubenville, dog-at-large. A caller reported Evans’ dog attacked his dog while it was chained in his yard. Evans told police an individual doing drywall work in his home had let his dogs out and he wasn’t there when it happened.

Nodding off: Someone reported a driver who was possibly impaired had been in an accident on private property, Saturday. Police said the driver told them he’d been awake for 24 hours and was just attempting to get home “when someone kept yelling at him to pull over.” Police said he’d parked his car “against a small pole” but he didn’t smell like he’d been drinking and said since he was tired, they parked his car for him and gave him a ride home.

Summoned: Marcus Washington, 37, 2418 Weir Ave., Weirton, petit theft. Employees at Walmart alleged Washington skip-scanned a number of items and bagged others “without making an effort to scan them,” Saturday, police said. The merchandise was valued at $330, they said.

Served: Angela D. Ware, 28, 1140 Lincoln Ave., Apt. A, Steubenville, warrant for petit theft, Friday.
