Steubenville Police
Pair charged: Two people were taken into custody after police stopped them because the windshield of their car was shattered, Monday. Police said Lyndi Casey, 51, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia while the driver, Nash P. Denhart, 28, 908 2nd St., Brilliant, was served with a warrant for failing to appear. Denhart also was cited for driving under suspension, police said.
Stopped: A Weirton woman was taken into custody on multiple charges after an officer patrolling a high drug activity area realized the vehicle she was in had an expired registration, Sunday. Police said they booked Brittany Bennett, 29, 727 Cove Road, into the Jefferson County jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drugs, falsification and failure to appear. The driver, Shawn Lonchar, 47, 3836 Marlamont Way, Weirton, also was cited for expired registration.
Too little, too late: A Weirton woman ended up in custody after allegedly telling police she “would pay for the shoes” employees at the Shoe Department had reported stolen, Monday. Police said they stopped Sarah E. McClelland, 35, 133 Bass Drive, based on the description employees had given them of the thief, and determined she was wanted on a bench warrant. When they searched her, police allege they found a bag containing a white powder-like substance believed to contain fentanyl and two hypodermic needles. In addition to serving her with the Municipal Court warrant, police charged McClelland with possession of drugs, possession of a hypodermic needle and theft .
Sightseeing: A Sunset Boulevard resident said a man walked into her home “and started looking around,” Tuesday. She advised her door was unlocked and she didn’t know the man but he said he’d once lived there. She told police he was clean but had no teeth.
Define ‘fine’: A caller reported a man sleeping on the side of the AutoZone on North Seventh Street, Monday. Police said the man told them “He is fine” and left the area.
Walk out: Employees at Kroger reported a man grabbed several plastic bags and loaded eight items into them before leaving without paying, Monday. They valued the stolen merchandise at $30.
Wrong idea: A Reynoldsburg man was convinced his daughter’s car had been stolen from a parking lot on South Third Street, Monday. He said the vehicle had been parked there for several weeks while arrangements were being made to have it picked up and said he’d been in contact with the business and did not believe it had been towed or repossessed. An employee familiar with the situation told police it had been towed at the store’s request.
Residency test: A Ridge Avenue resident wanted an individual removed from her home, but police advised her the other woman has established residence and would have to be evicted,” Monday.
Misplaced punishment: Callers complained about a dog barking in the 800 block of North Sixth Street, Monday. The owner told police she’d put the dog outside as punishment, but police pointed out that she’d managed to disturb her neighbors. She brought the dog inside.
Booked: Richard Leroy Ray Johnson, 22, 817 Market St., Steubenville, contempt of court and possession of drugs, Saturday. Police allege that Johnson was at the downtown Speedway parking lot despite a court order banning him from the property and when they took him into custody, he had .2 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and a glass pipe in his possession.
Cited: Courtney Liberatore, 36, Martins Ferry, driving under suspension and expired/unlawful plates.

Domestic issues: A caller reported a friend had been “choked until she was unresponsive” during a domestic distpute at a Bergholz residence, Tuesday. Deputies contacted the alleged victim, who told them she was at work in Pittsburgh and had not been at the residence, and said the caller was an old friend “but (was) no longer because (she) keeps filing false reports on her.” After deputies called her workplace to confirm she was really there she called back, and this time was “very uncooperative on the phone with dispatchers” and refused to tell them her exact location or information” and said she wanted to be left alone. There is a no contact order in place between the couple and the woman confirmed she is aware of it.
Get out while you can: A Rayland man said he came home from work to find his girlfriend drunk and an empty bottle of Fireball, Monday. He said she was being “very aggressive and argumentative” and had “cornered him in a room and would not let him out” to call police. He said it never escalated to a physical confrontation, but he was trying to keep her from “taking his car and driving drunk.”
Nice try: A Mingo Junction woman said a caller tried to convince her she’d won the Mega Million drawing and promised to “bring all the money to her” if she would go to the bank and wire them a $469 processing fee, Monday. Deputies told her it was likely a scam and not to send money, which she said wouldn’t be a problem because she doesn’t drive. They told her if the scammer calls back to find out when they would be coming and said it was likely they’d continue to call back “trying to get money from her.” The woman called sheriff’s deputies again to report the scammers called back “and told her they . She said the caller advised they’d “come and take her to the bank” since she didn’t have a way of getting there,” but didn’t say when. She said after they called a third time they “would not quit calling and asking if she had gone to the bank yet.” Deputies told her to stop answering their calls and if a stranger came to the door to call the sheriff’s department.
Bank fraud: A Toronto woman said she found fraudulent charges on her Chime account, Monday. She told deputies there were two $64 charges as well as a $1,118 transfer to her credit builder account, none of which she’d authorized. She said she had also seen transactions at an ATM and a Publix in Pembroke, Fla., but she couldn’t see them on the account at the moment. She said Chime insisted she file a police report and send them proof she had been in the hospital at the time of the fraud.
Jumped: A Dillonvale man said he was helping a friend move when he “was attacked from behind by a man,” Tuesday. He provided the man’s given name but said he didn’t know him.
Thumbing: A resident on state Route 213 was concerned because a man had been pounding on his back door before sitting down and asking him to call police, Thursday. When deputies got there, he requested a ride to Steubenville.
Reported: A caller reported a juvenile was threatening another juvenile with a knife, but deputies were unable to locate the youth, Monday.
Served: Chanell Broadus, 110 Wildon Ave., Steubenville, warrant alleging failure to appear, Monday. Deputies said Broadus had been subpoenaed as a witness in a case in Franklin County but did not report.
