Vengeful ex: A woman asked police to check on the welfare of two juveniles living on Grandview Avenue, claiming when their father came to her home she “believed he was intoxicated,” Sunday. Police said when they spoke with him, he showed no sign of impairment and told them he’s had ongoing problems with his ex calling in bogus welfare checks

Charged: Employees at Wal-Mart told police a city resident tried to leave the store with more than $150 in merchandise she hadn’t paid for, Sunday. Police said Briona Blanchard, 21, 723 Market St., Apt. B, was charged with petit theft.

Walk off: Employees at Wal-Mart reported a woman left the store without paying for a purse and other items, Sunday. They said she left in a gold SUV.

Booked: Stephen Blauch, 56, 1204 ½ Arlington Ave., Steubenville, domestic violence, Sunday.

Bad behavior: An employee at Maryland Market told police she wants to pursue charges against a man who knocked items off the counter, kicked over a trash can and cursed at her, Monday. The employee said the man had asked a deli worker a question and when the deli worker didn’t answer, she did. She said the male, who she knows, began “cursing at (her), telling her to ‘shut up” and referring to her by a derogatory word. When she told him he needed to leave the store he knocked some candies on display off the shelf, damaging their packaging, and kicked the trash over.

Scene stealers: Employees at Wal-Mart said two women concealed merchandise under their coat and tried to leave with it and other items in a shopping cart without paying for any of it, Monday. When an employee confronted them as they tried to wheel the cart out the two “began causing a scene before both began grabbing merchandise out of the shopping cart” and making a run for it, police said. Employees recognized them.

Attention getters: Two people ended up in police custody after police said they disappeared behind parked cars in the 1800 block of Sunset Boulevard, Monday. Police said Sean Miller, no age or address listed, and Elizabeth Ely, 40, no address listed, were served with outstanding warrants. In addition to failure to appear, Ely was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Police said when they emerged from behind the car they found a pair of “fresh looking” syringes, which Ely allegedly took ownership of.

Parenting lapse: A homeowner showed police surveillance footage of juveniles urinating on the side of a residence in the 500 block of Woodland Avenue, Monday.

Criminally lazy: A 15-year-old in the 1300 block of Euclid Avenue said he called 911 because his sister was refusing to get out of their mother’s car to help unload groceries, Monday. Police explained to him it doesn’t constitute an emergency.

Robbed: A Dock Street resident reported someone entered the family home while they were away and took a 45-inch TV, two laptops, a tablet, a MapQuest laptop and $670 in cash, Monday.

Harassed: A Cadiz man told police he’s being harassed by another man, Monday. He said the individual “almost hit him with a vehicle” at Fifth Street near North Street. Police advised him to pursue an order of protection and stay away from the man.

Trashy: A property owner complained he was finding other people’s trash in his private hauler roll-back receptacles, Monday. He told police he’d found a TV box with the person’s name and address on it.

Booked: Jared Joynson, 27, 637 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, probation violation, Tuesday.

Cited: David A. Vogel, 67, 512 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, expired registration and a one-way street violation after a two-car collision Monday in the 500 block of North Court Alley.

Suspicious mind: A Rayland area resident told deputies he returned home to find a pile of leaves raked where he parks his car and when he moved them he found “large pieces of wood” hidden in them, Monday. He said he was concerned that if he’d stepped on them he might fall, which he said could be catastrophic due to a health condition he has, and believes his neighbor did it intentionally.

Falling over: A caller was concerned with possible vandalism at Highland Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Monday. He told deputies he’d been visiting family graves and spotted three headstones on the ground that hadn’t been there the other day when he was there. He felt they’d been deliberately toppled, though deputies pointed out extreme weather experienced in the area lately might be the culprit.

Missing property: A Yorkville resident told deputies a PlayStation 5 and a hard drive she’d rented were removed from her property, Monday. She said her son had friends staying over but when he went to juvenile court for an infraction he was detained, so she asked his friends to leave. She said they left as requested, but after they were gone noticed the gaming system was missing.

Booked: Justin M. Reese, 3788 county Road 25, Rayland, probation violation (Wintersville county court), Monday.
