Steubenville Police
Noise maker: Callers complained about a man “screaming and yelling” in the 1200 block of Ridge Avenue, Wednesday. Police said they saw the man “open his door and begin screaming,” and when they told him there’d been complaints, he said he was “upset because he believed that (they) shouldn’t have been called.” He said “all he was doing was changing his batteries on his porch.” Police told him to calm down and go inside.
Causing problems: An Asplundh Tree foreman told police a homeowner in the 300 block of Westwood Drive damaged company equipment, Wednesday. He said crews returned from their lunch break to discover a homeowner had “thrown several pieces of their equipment over a hillside,” and now a Husqvarna expandable Mad Saw is inoperable.
Frequent flyer: A passerby flagged police down to request a welfare check on a man “laying down in the dirt” on Washington Street at Sixth Street, Wednesday. Police recognized the man, who said “he was tired and was just taking a nap.”
Cause and effect: A woman told police she’d picked her ex-boyfriend up at the hospital and on the way home he “began to yell at her and put his finger in her face,” and when she slapped his hand away from her face claimed he “slapped her in the face.” Her ex said she slapped him first so he slapped her back. They were advised to stay away from each other.
Burning bush: A woman burning brush at a property in the 600 block of Grandview Avenue told police she was “working for the property owner, cleaning it up,” Wednesday. Firefighters thought she was squatting in an apartment, but she told police she is only there to work. They reminded her the properties have no water or trash service so no one can live in them.
Damaged: Someone vandalized a motorcycle parked in the Rural King lot, Wednesday. The owner said he came out of the store and saw the damage, which included several deep scratches to the top and side of the tank.
Panhandling: Callers complained about a woman in the Hollywood Plaza parking lot “asking (customers) for money and looking in vehicles,” Wednesday. Police checked the lot but didn’t’ find her, and a bystander said she’d left in a white Taurus.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties 1613 Pennsylvania Ave., mattresses, garbage scattered in the back yard, bags of garbage piled on gangway between it and neighboring property; 432 Maxwell Ave., couch in side yard; 245 S. Eighth St., large pile of tires; 2416 Sunset Blvd., mattress on porch; 368 Summit Ave., junk and litter on porch and in yard; 1322 Plum St., litter and household garbage on front porch and in back yard
Cited: David M. Lalich, 53, 124 Aberdeen Road, Steubenville, failure to control and driving under suspension Wednesday after striking a wall and coming to rest partially on the trunk of a vehicle parked in the AutoZone lot. Lalich said his foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal, causing him to lose control as he attempted a left turn from Washington Street onto North Seventh Street.
