No place for kids: A Salem Township man claimed two women were holding his family hostage in his home and threatening them with physical violence, but when deputies arrived he said they’d argued and he just wanted them to leave. Deputies said both women appeared to be impaired, with one admitting she drank all night and had lived there for six months, the other denied being drunk and said she’d stayed there one night. Deputies said after speaking with all parties, including a family member who was the boyfriend of one of the women, “it became apparent that narcotics were being used all night, alcohol was being consumed and sexual interactions were taking place.” The cousin said he’d argued with the male homeowner because he wanted to engage in a group activity while his wife and children were in another part of the house “which (he) found odd because (they) are related.” Deputies said the home was in deplorable condition” with dog feces, mold, dirt and filth, clothes, old food and decrepit furniture strewn about in addition to the drugs and illicit activities and said it was in no way suitable environment for children, so children services was contacted. The homeowner told deputies one of the women had a meth pipe and his cousin left the room to warn her to hide it, . Deputies said they recommended charges against the homeowner for making false alarms and child endangerment; his wife, child endangerment; both women for possession of drug paraphernalia; and the homeowner’s cousin for obstruction.

Letting loose: Someone reported hearing a female yelling and a male arguing with her, Monday. When police located the man, he said he was talking with the woman and she invited him to come over, “then he found out she was cheating on him.” The woman told police she “barely knows him and he showed up at her house.” She said he pounded on her door until she started yelling, then he left.

Lesson learned: A Maryland Avenue resident said she’d let friends stay with her but when they left her home one of them didn’t lock the door and when she returned, two of her wedding rings were missing, Monday. She said it appeared the same woman was trying to steal other items because she saw of them in her bags. Police told her since the door was let unlocked they couldn’t immediately accuse the other woman of stealing the rings, so she told them she wasn’t going to let her get her things until her jewelry was returned. Shortly after police left they were called back to the residence after the homeowner reportedly told them the houseguest and some of her friends had shown up and were trying to get into her home. Police said no one was there but they did see “muddy shoe prints left on the white front door.” The houseguest walked up and told police she wanted her things from the woman’s home, so the resident gathered the items she thought belonged to them and police gave them to the houseguest, who immediately claimed she had other possessions inside. Police told them both any further disagreements would need to be resolved in court.
