Theft alleged: A woman employed by Wal-Mart’s in-house delivery service ended up in police custody after she allegedly tried to leave the store with personal items she hadn’t paid for along with an order she’d picked for a client, Sunday. Police said Jennifer L. Phillips, 46, 1503 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, was charged with theft of nearly $100 in merchandise and banned from the store. Loss prevention officers claim Phillips skip-scanned merchandise while she was paying for and bagging her client’s items, police said.
Attention getters: Police said two people ended up in police custody after employees at Mr. Fuel reported seeing them concealing merchandise, Monday. The driver, Theresa Coles, 46, 808 Wilkins St., Steubenville, and a passenger Brian Digman, 38, no fixed address, were booked into the Jefferson County jail on warrants issued by Wintersville county court alleging both failed to appear in court. Coles also faces charges of possession of drugs and theft after baggies containing a white powder resident and one with “what appeared to be a crystal-like substance” were found by the driver’s side door and merchandise from Mr. Fuel stuffed in her purse, police said. Three other passengers were released.
Drugs: An apparent overdose was reported in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue (rear), Sunday. A business owner said a woman ran into the store asking for Narcan and when she went outside, saw an unresponsive woman “propped up against a garage door” and revived her with 8 milligrams of the opioid antagonist. The overdose victim said she’d taken “what she thought was cocaine” before she was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Police gave the woman a drug treatment form.
Over and out: A man requested a welfare check on a family member living on Woodlawn Road, Sunday. The man said his daughter had “called and advised him that her boyfriend was abusing her,” but when police checked on her she said they were arguing and she wanted the boyfriend to be removed, Police advised her that if he’d established residency they couldn’t make him leave so she told them “she would take care of it herself.”
Cited: Harry E. Shepard, 36, 316 Terrace Ave., Steubenville, red light violation and driving under suspension after a two-car accident with injuries at the intersection of Sunset and Hollywood boulevards.
