Family affair: Employees at Wal-Mart told police they’d detained a man who walked through the store eating food and snacks he hadn’t paid for, Sunday. They told police they continued to monitor him and observed his children choosing more sandwiches and a soda, which also were consumed, and said the wrappers were randomly discarded throughout the store. Employees said the man never attempted to pay for the items he’d consumed and was attempting to leave the store. Employees said they also discovered one of the children had snatched a pack of Pokemon cards that hadn’t been paid for but they didn’t want to pursue charges since the child handed them over. Police said the male’s explanation for stealing items and “having his children steal for him as well” was that he “needed a snack.” The items he stole totaled $11.50.

Bumpy ride: A woman said she let her children stay with their father at a Dresden Avenue residence because her furnace went out, but when she went to pick them up he “began arguing with her and … hitting her” and was halfway down the steps when he allegedly shoved her the rest of the way, Sunday. She said she fled the residence and told police he left leaving their children inside. Police said the kids were fine and the woman refused treatment. She refused to pursue charges.

Angry man: A combative nursing home patient threw his food tray and the foot pegs from his wheelchair at employees, Sunday. They said he also threatened to harm them. Police said the male was “highly upset, cursing at and berating” the staff but eventually calmed down and denied the allegations, though police noted there were wheelchair parts on the floor “as well as food on the wall and floor.”

Hurried departure: A caller reported a man threw a plastic bottle and a rag at her, Sunday. She wanted him to be removed from the property and police said he gathered his things to leave.

Bad behavior: Police were told four kids were riding bikes through a business in the 400 block of South Third Street, Sunday. Employees said the kids had been asked to leave the store several times and they wouldn’t.

Vandalism: An Oakmont Avenue resident reported property damage, Sunday. Police said there was clothing strewn thrown throughout the back yard and a vehicle with a shattered rear windshield in the detached garage.

Dogs at large: A resident in the 400 block of South Seventh Street said his neighbor’s dog keeps coming onto his property, tearing up his trash and defecating in his yard. The owners were advised to keep their dog out of the man’s yard.

Bad feelings: A resident in the 400 block of South Street said her ex kicked in her back door, then fled the area, Sunday. The female said he’d come to the location to get his belongings “but became upset and kicked open the already partially opened back door,” then left without his things.

A caller reported two men “stumbling and laying down on the benches and folding areas” in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard, Sunday. Police located the men but said they were waiting on a friend to arrive. Both denied being under the influence or needing medical attention and consented to be searched, but no contraband was found. They were asked to leave the property, and after they were gone a hypodermic needle was found on the floor.

River walk: A caller reported a truck partially submerged in the river, Sunday. Police didn’t find a vehicle in the water, and bystanders advised a truck had been turning around in the water and already left the area.

Quick fix: Three dogs were on the loose in the 400 block of McKee Street, Sunday. Bystanders pointed police to the owner’s residence but no one was home. The front door wasn’t latched and police were able to secure the dogs inside the residence with a rope tying the front door handle to the railing.

Booked: Tony L. Hilton, 44, East Liverpool, petty theft, Monday.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Second thoughts: A Columbus man told deputies he is being threatened, Saturday. He said he’d been staying with a friend in Empire but they had a disagreement, so he left. Since then, he said the woman has “started making threats” to harm him.

Animal issue: A caller said her neighbor’s dog is constantly off the leash and running around her yard and had killed one of her chickens on township Road 381, Monday. She told deputies she sent him a text to “confront” him and he messaged back that he was going to call police “and they will come out and shoot your dog.”

Made it up: A Wintersville woman told deputies her daughter was “out of control, punching holes in the wall and breaking things,” Sunday. Upon investigating, deputies discovered she’d made it all up and reported there they didn’t see any holes in the wall and nothing had been broken.
