Jefferson County Sheriff
Needs help: A Jefferson County resident called a family member who lives three hours away and asked her to drive her because her mother and her boyfriend had been chasing a cat and “got hit by a vehicle and (she) believed they are dead,” Wednesday. Deputies said paramedics were later sent to the location to assist a woman who ingested narcotics and reported that she told them “she used the restroom (the night before) and half of her organs came out.” She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Distracting: A woman reported a co-worker was threatening to kill her, Wednesday. She said the two of them argued because he was “on his cellphone talking to his girlfriend, which was distracting her from her work.” She said she asked him to take the conversation outside so she could concentrate on her job responsibilities, which involved several radio communication devices. He went out for a few minutes then came back in and “continued talking loudly on his phone,” so she asked him a second time to go outside. This time he “began yelling at her and got in her face,” then went outside and began “talking on one of the radios, making comments about how he was going to “take care” of her and threatened to “come to her house, destroy it and kill her kids.” She said she was advised by a supervisor to send him home but he initially refused to go, then walked outside and appeared to be waiting for a ride before she lost sight of him. She told deputies she didn’t want to pursue charges but wanted them to make sure he’d left.
Cited: Kayla Hochstrasser, 38, 408 Walden Ave., Apt. 4, Tiltonsville, driving under suspension. Deputies said they stopped Hochstrasser in Yorkville after noticing her vehicle didn’t have a county sticker on the plate and a defective exhaust, though a male passenger “stated it was not a valid reason” for being pulled over. After he twice refused to provide identification as required, they said he was handcuffed. Deputies said they issued Hochstrasser the citation after she was unable to produce a valid license, then asked the male a third time to identify himself. This time he provided the necessary information so they removed the handcuffs though they said he continued to be confrontational. Once the male was confirmed to be free of warrants, deputies said he was released and the vehicle was towed.
Steubenville Police
Ditched: A motorist told police he was blinded by the “very bright” headlights of an oncoming vehicle and ended up “skidding forward into a ditch and hillside” at the bottom of Lovers Lane at county Road 43, Wednesday. He said after the vehicle passed he realized he was nearing the hillside at the bottom of the hill, hit his brakes and started sliding. The driver was not injured.
No violation: Someone reported several vehicles blocking a garage in the 500 block of Cedar Avenue, but police said when they checked the scene the vehicles were legally parked and not blocking the neighboring garage, Wednesday.
Vandalized: A resident in the 1600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue reported someone slashed her front driver side tire, Wednesday.
Booked: Joel Greer, 33, 732 N. Seventh St., Steubenville, criminal trespass, Wednesday. Callers complained he’d been at a property in the 100 block of North Fourth Street despite not being allowed on the premises.
Charged: Damion Irizarry, 49, no fixed address, petit theft, Wednesday. Employees at Mr. Fuel alleged a man was eating food items he hadn’t paid for as he left the store. Police said Irizarry claimed he paid for the items.
Move them or lose them: The owner of several unlicensed vehicles parked in the grass in the 1100 block of Park Street were notified they’d need to be moved, Wednesday.
Code issues: A caller complained of litter at a property in the 1500 block of Ridge Avenue, Wednesday. Police said they’ll comb through several bags of garbage and a large cardboard TV box on the sidewalk and in front of the property for clues and citations may be issued. Also Wednesday, notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1328 Oak Grove Ave., indoor furniture piled on side of vacant property.
