Steubenville Police
Bottoms up: A motorist who gave a woman a ride needed police help getting her out of her vehicle, Tuesday She said she’d made a stop at a store and when she came out, her passenger was “drinking what appeared to be a bottle of vodka” and was becoming belligerent and refused to get out of her car. Police said the passenger “appeared to be extremely intoxicated (and) was not able to stand or speak in a coherent manner” and they detected the “overwhelming odor of an intoxicating beverage” emanating from her. Due to her level of intoxication police said it “was apparent she could not care for herself in (that) state” so they told her she was going to be transported to the hospital, prompting her to “become combative and begin screaming profanities.” They said she also tried to spit on ambulance personnel.
Needed help: Police reported a “large amount of smoke” originating from a property where a man was behaving erratically, Tuesday. Police were told he’d set shoes, wood and clothing on fire and when they checked, discovered a large fire burning with “a very large pile of clothes” next to it as well as a rear alley residence so Steubenville firefighters were called to extinguish the flames. Police said the man didn’t want to go to the hospital, but he was still speaking irrationally and began to scream, flailing his arms and pulling away and at one point stripped all his clothes off and tried to walk away.
Louse: A man moved out of a residence in the 1000 block of Main Street but neglected to take his dog, abandoning it in a vacant property with no food or water, Tuesday. The property owner was unable to make contact with the man so, the Jefferson County Humane Society took the dog from the home. Police attempted to speak with the man at a Market Street location but couldn’t find him.
Threatened: A home health worker was threatened by a patient, Tuesday. The employee claims the woman threatened to kill her if she saw her at the office and told her, “If the doctor tells me I have a week to live, you’ll have less.” The agency is going to terminate services to the woman.
Not worth it: A Market Street resident said his girlfriend locked him out of the apartment, Tuesday. The girlfriend said he’d moved out for a week, but he told police he’d been in the hospital and just got out. He claimed the electric bill was in his name, but she claimed it was in hers and pulled out a paper copy which had neither of their names on it, nor did they report finding any of his belongings in the bedroom. He was advised he’d have to follow up with the courts or JMHA.
Nicotine fits: Neighbors complained a woman in the 700 block of North Seventh Street is prone to “knocking on (the) door in the middle of the night, asking for cigarettes,” Tuesday. The caller said building manager is refusing to intercede, so police located the woman, advised her of the complaints and told her to stop knocking on doors during the night.
Walk-in: A Summit Avenue resident told police someone entered her home and stole a 32-inch LG TV, $100 in cash and a Bluetooth speaker, Tuesday. Entry was made through an unlocked door.
Trashy look: A caller reported finding chairs and trash on a property in the rear of the 800 block of North Sixth Street and believes people are trespassing, Tuesday.
Cited: Joe G. Vein, 94, 141 Shirley Circle, Steubenville, failure to yield left turn after two-car collision Tuesday in the 3900 block of Sunset Boulevard. No injuries reported.
Code issue: A notice of violation was sent to the owner/occupant of a property at 810 N. Sixth Ave., high grass/weeds.
Booked: Marc N. Bell, 38, 403 Union Ave., Steubenville, failure to appear, Tuesday.
Jefferson County Sheriff
Episodic behavior: Deputies were told a man visiting his girlfriend and her husband started having “one of his episodes,” Tuesday. They said he was calling her names. He was warned to stay away from the property.
Brooke County Sheriff
Charged: Jeremy E. Stillion, 27, 73 27th St., Wellsburg, battery, on Oct. 2, for allegedly striking a man over a dispute involving the sale of a motorcycle.
