Steubenville Police
Peeping alleged: A city resident was taken into custody after he allegedly was “taking photographs of a woman inside the women’s restroom” near Franciscan University’s fieldhouse, Saturday. Police said William A. Benjamin, 29, 908 Market St., Apt. 6, had been “apprehended by students outside of the Finnegan Fieldhouse.” After speaking with the alleged victim as well as students, Benjamin was charged with voyeurism, police said.
Runaway: A .40 caliber magazine but not the gun it went to was recovered after a man they spotted on a porch in the 2000 block of Eve Drive fled on foot, Friday. Police said the man, who they later identified, took off running down Eve Drive and cut through back yards and into a parking lot, reporting as he ran across Sunset Boulevard he dropped it on the curb, then “picked it back up and continued running east bound onto Mucci Way.” They said they lost him when he cut through a driveway and ran towards Belleview Boulevard. Police report they found the cartridge under a bush where they said the firearm was dropped.
Cat fight: Two people involved in a disturbance in the 700 block of Market Street told police they’d been arguing over their cat getting loose, but the disagreement was strictly verbal, Sunday.
Homeless no more: A man who’d been chased from a Commercial Street property multiple times told police he’d talked to the owner and now had permission to stay there, Friday. He contacted the owner, who gave police the address for the property and said the man could stay there.
Booked: Police filed charges against a city resident who they said “appeared” to be intoxicated (and) extremely agitated,” Friday. Otis Bagley, 37, 238 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, was booked into the Jefferson County jail on a domestic violence charge. Police said Bagley told them he was upset because his partner had invited her family to stay there “and he wanted them out.” The female’s face and neck were red, her shirt was torn and her bra strap broken, and police said she told them the male “just had too much to drink” but she would tell them how and when she was injured, nor did she want to pursue charges herself so they filed for her.
Recurring hostilities: A man washing his car in his mother’s driveway on Steuben Woods Drive said a neighbor came out of his house and “began to yell at him,” Sunday. He said he was washing his own vehicles at the time and said it’s been an ongoing problem. The neighbor said the car washer doesn’t live at the residence claimed he’s in violation of the homeowners association policies. He said it’s been an ongoing problem and said it ended up in court previously “and guidelines were handed down … stating he could not run a (car detailing business) out of his mother’s garage/residence.”
Nuts: Residents are complaining about juveniles throwing walnuts, Saturday. A man in the 500 block of Pittsburgh Street said the kids were throwing walnuts into his yard, while a woman in the 1200 block of Oregon said kids were “throwing walnuts at her kids and threatening them.” That male said he’s been having problems “with his neighr and her kids.”
Booked: Robert Allen Korpas, 64, 1239 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, domestic violence, Sunday. Police said they were called to a residence three times because Korpas was allegedly “yelling and attempting to argue” with a family member,” and at one point threatened to “tear up” the house and “proceeded to dig up patches of mulch in the front yard and throw them onto the front porch.”
Up to no good: Someone reported seeing two men wearing hooded sweatshirts and ski masks looking into cars parked on Jeannette Avenue, Saturday.
Over-indulged: Police were asked to check on a man laying face down in the grass in the 200 block of S. 6th Street, Saturday. Police said he was “highly intoxicated (and) advised that he was coming from the ‘bar’.” Police gave him a ride home.
Juvenile: A woman in the 900 block of Market Street told police she couldn’t get a man to leave her property, Friday. He left before police could get to the residence, but the female had a protection order against him and advised that before he left, he threw a child’s food on the ground and threatened to come back to assault her.
Made entry: An Earl Drive resident said a man kicked her door in after an argument, Saturday. She said the man had walked in her apartment after he kicked the door in but fled when she said she was calling police. Police said the door frame was broken, and the woman told them she wants to pursue charges.
Booked: A city resident is in custody after police allegedly found him on the property of a woman who has an order barring him from contact with her, Saturday. Anthony M. Beckett, 21, 2516 Crabbe Blvd., Apt A, was charged with possession of drugs and violating a protection order, police said. A woman said he’d been banging on her front door but had fled on foot before police arrived. Police report they found Beckett hiding behind her house and said they found a small plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine in his pants pocket.
Bugged: Someone reported seeing a woman pouring lighter fluid on a parked car, Friday. When police got there the woman was holding a broom and a bottle of lighter fluid and told them she owned the vehicle She said she hadn’t driven it in some time and “it was filled with bees.” She said she didn’t have any bug spray but had read that lighter fluid would kill them. Police helped her get them out.
Fraud: A Broadway Boulevard resident said someone opened a bank account using her information, Friday. She said she’d already contacted the bank and had the account closed but was advised to file a police report anyway.
Threats: A city resident told police she’s being threatened by a man known to her, Friday. She said he’s been calling her on a private number and making the threats.
Missing money: A Lawson Avenue resident suspects a female acquaintance took $100 from his bank account without his authorization, Friday.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1135 Oak Grove, 1139 Oak Grove, 816 Lawson Ave., 1659 Ridge Ave., 804 N. Fourth St., 838 Lawson Ave, all high grass/weeds. Also, 808 Wilkins Ave., high grass/weeds, litter and junk.
Warned: Owners of vehicles parked in the front yards of residences at 715 Woodlawn Road and 767 Woodlawn Road received warning tickets for front yard parking, Friday.
Charged: James Starr, 63, 213 Wildflower way, Follansbee, theft. Employees at Wal-Mart allege Star stuffed merchandise into a hooded sweatshirt, then tried to leave without paying for the items. Police said the merchandise was valued at nearly $176.
