Charged: Jeremy S. Barger, 37, 854 Brookline St., Weirton, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, Tuesday.

Charged: Christian C. Jones, 21, 478 Bethany Pike, Wellsburg, fleeing from an officer on foot and possession of a controlled substance, Tuesday.

West Virginia State Police

Charged: Lester S. Gajtka Jr., 51, 155 Garfield Way, Follansbee, obtaining money under false pretenses, Tuesday.

Steubenville Police

Moving day: A resident in the 700 block of North Fourth Street said he let a couple live in an attic bedroom for a time and said they paid him back by stealing a window air conditioner, numerous power tools, a large collection of Pokemon cards and some of his clothing, Tuesday. He said he’d planned to evict them but before he could they moved out, taking with them “the minimal belongings they had” and some of his. He told police he thinks they left the state.

Eggs-actly: A city resident was taken into custody after he allegedly egged a downtown residence, Tuesday. Police said James C. Pruitt, 33, 129 Reichart Ave., was booked into the Jefferson County jail on charges of criminal mischief, criminal trespass, possession of drugs and resisting arrest. The resident told police the man is unhappy about his relationship with a female and “came to the rear of his residence and threw eggs (at) the window.” He claimed the man had “been arguing with him and threatening him for a few days.” Police allege surveillance footage captured images of Pruitt approaching the man’s home “with a handful of eggs” and allege he had a substance believed to be cocaine base in his possession when he was taken into custody.

Unsteady: A city resident who fell into a table and struck his head “was intoxicated (and told police) he suffers from a medical condition,” Tuesday. Steubenville EMS transported him to the hospital.

Squatting: Police spotted several people exiting an abandoned building in the 200 block of North Fourth Street, Wednesday. An officer caught up to a man who tried to re-enter the building, reminding him he’d been they’d told him and his wife several times they can’t be in the property, so the man went inside the building and woke his wife up. The two of them gathered their belongings and left.

Lock out: Someone reported two people arguing in the rear parking lot at JFK Apartments, Wednesday. Police said a man told them he’d been locked out of the building “and was trying to get someone to let him in.”

Family fight: A woman involved in a disturbance at a Pennsylvania Avenue residence told police her father was intoxicated and had been arguing with her, Tuesday. She said it didn’t turn physical, so no police assistance was needed.

Bad day: Someone reported a man crying on the side of Seventh and Adams streets, but when police checked the area, they said they didn’t find anyone in distress, Tuesday.

Not there: Police were asked to check North Fifth Street around Madison Avenue for a man who’d passed out, Tuesday. Police said they didn’t find anyone passed out or in need of attention.

Adding up: A Market Street resident told police he thinks he’s being charged too much for cell service, Tuesday. He said his cell carrier has been making two $70.18 withdrawals each month for the past few months. Over the past year he said $531.38 has been withdrawn from his account.

Summons: Ashley E. Summers, 41, 3625 Wood St., Weirton, misdemeanor theft, Tuesday; Blake A. Thompson, 43, 221 Harvard Ave., Steubenville, warrant for failure to spear; Tuesday.

Disagreement: A man in the 300 block of North Seventh Street wanted his girlfriend removed from the residence, Wednesday. He told police she’d threatened to lock him out and claimed she didn’t live there, but police advised they knew she lived there, and he would have to evict her. She said the male was “highly intoxicated” and they’d argued. The caller was advised he’d need to speak with an attorney if he wanted her to be evicted.

Packed: Employees at J.C. Penney in the Fort Steuben Mall told police two women walked out of the store with suitcases filled with merchandise they hadn’t paid for, Tuesday.

Bagged: Employees at Wal-Mart allege a woman loaded a big bag with cosmetics and soap and fled the store on foot without paying for the items, Tuesday.

Unhappy: A caller reported seeing a woman standing at the stop sign at Seventh and Logan streets “yelling at motorists,” Tuesday. Police said they didn’t hear or see anyone yelling at drivers.

Booked: Bernard Brown, 57, 1130 Oak Grove Ave., Steubenville, failure to appear, Tuesday.

Served: Cameron Banks, 27, Opal Boulevard, Steubenville, failure to appear, Tuesday.

Cited: Jayceon Hills, 18, 416 Highland Ave., Steubenville, no operator’s license.
