Steubenville Police

Wandering eye: A female in the 100 block of North Fourth Street was upset because she caught her male companion “with another female partner,” Monday. Police said when they arrived they saw the woman screaming at the male “and on several occasions she had gotten far too close to (him), acting as though she were about to strike him.” Police had to restrain her because she continued to go after the male and had her sit while they spoke with the male, who said all they’d done was argue. She was released once she calmed down and both were advised to separate for the night “as the two obviously cannot be near one another without there being further issues.”

Holding a grudge: A man causing a disturbance in the vicinity of Jeannette Avenue told police he’d argued with his wife earlier and wanted to speak with her, Sunday. His wife said they’d argued “about her affair 31 years ago and she did not wish to be around him anymore.” The two of them were advised to stay away from each other for the remainder of the night.

Attention getter: Callers reported a man they knew in the 500 block of Lawson Avenue “yelling in the roadway and exposing himself,” Monday. Police said they found the man, but he denied exposing himself and denied having been at the Lawson Avenue location.

Suspicious: A man staying at his father’s home told police he thinks he and his brother are being drugged or poisoned, Monday. He said his father prepares dinner but never eats what he gives them to eat, and advised his pupils are dilated and his vision is blurry after eating and his brother falls asleep within minutes of eating. He also admitted smoking marijuana.

Just say no: A Lincoln Avenue resident said her adult daughter was causing a disturbance, Monday. She said her daughter wanted to take her children, but she did not believe her daughter “is in the right state of mind to care for the children.” The daughter told police she’s currently homeless “but believed she would be able to stay with her father if she was able to get her children back.” Police told her that given her current circumstances, it would be in the kids’ best interest to stay with their grandmother. She was advised not to cause any more disturbances.

Barged in: A couple in the 700 block of North Fourth Street said the owner of their rental property “came to their door and started yelling at them,” Monday. The male said the owner is a family member and they have a lease agreement but he’s behind on the rent. He said he asked her to leave “and she was pounding on the door, which he had locked” and showed police a video of the woman “yelling through the door and eventually forcing the door open and coming into their room.” In the video the woman is heard telling the couple she wants them out of the residence before leaving. Police advised the couple to follow up with the prosecutor.

Homeless: A man sleeping on the porch of an abandoned residence in the vicinity of Slack and South Fourth streets was told he couldn’t stay there, either, Sunday. He told officers he didn’t need assistance, and they told him the building was still private property and he’d have to leave.

Two in custody: Two women were booked into the Jefferson County jail after a disturbance call in the 1200 block of Plum Street, Monday. Police said Celeste Brown, 55, 1301 Ridge Ave., was charged with domestic violence and served with a warrant for failure to appear, and Eugenia Brown, 39, 1206 Plum St., Apt. 2, Steubenville, was taken into custody as a fugitive from justice. Police said Eugenia Brown is facing extradition to Pennsylvania.

Conniving: A city resident told police his estranged wife has been following him through town, “despite knowing that she has an active protection order against him,” Monday. Police noted the man also had an order of protection against his wife, and he showed them a video he’d recorded that day showing the woman following him and “attempting to lure (him) to her car” to speak with her. They said the video showed her “making an active attempt to speak with him” and tried to give him a phone that didn’t belong to him. The man was concerned his wife was trying to get him arrested for violating the court order.

Knock-knock: A woman in the 100 block of North Fourth Street claimed someone had been beating on her door, Monday. Police said she and her significant other claimed the man beat on their door for a few minutes before leaving.

Served: Jason C. Darby, 41, 2410 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, bench warrant for criminal damaging, Monday. Darby also was cited for driving under suspension, police said; Angel Barnes, 36, 715 Market St., Apt. C, Steubenville, probation violation, Monday.

Blunder: A woman in the 2800 block of Cleveland Avenue who left her car unlocked overnight said her wallet and medication were missing, Monday. She said cash, personal items and her debit cards were in the wallet.

Dented: A woman parked at Mall Drive said someone kicked her drivers’ side door, Monday.

Communication issue: Two people in the 1300 block of Arlington Avenue were fighting, but police said they had to talk with both of them through the door, Monday. Neither of them would step outside to talk with officers, but the woman wanted to know if police could force the male out. They were advised to stay away from each other to avoid further problems, but officers had to return to the same residence six hours later. The woman again refused to open the door and said it was because she has outstanding arrest warrants. She decided not to file a report.
