Steubenville Police

Man on a mission: A caller reported a man dragging a second man “down the alleyway and assaulting him” in the 100 block of North Sixth Street, Sunday. Police spoke with individuals at the homeless shelter who said the victim was there “having his clothes cleaned” when the other man showed up looking for the victim and “stating he was going to kill him.” Staff members said they took a green metal pipe from the aggressor but said he spotted the victim outside and began chasing him on foot. When last seen, both were running through the alley, they said.

Flasher: Police were advised a “large group of people” were fighting at the North End ballfield and a male wearing red sweatpants and no shirt was “waving a firearm around,” Saturday. Bystanders said the man took off running south on Seventh Street. Police searched the area but couldn’t locate him.

Hammered out: A woman in the 100 block of North Fourth Street said her next door neighbor damaged her wall, Sunday. She said the man was her ex and claimed he tried to get her attention by “throwing items against the wall,” knocking plaster off her wall. Police said they noticed “numerous markings” on the wall in question and said she told them it was caused by the two of them “striking it with a hammer” previously.

Fixer upper: The owner of a property in the 1000 block of McNeal Street said one of her tenants “has been making renovations without her permission and has (done more) damage than he has repairs,” Friday. She said she’d given him permission to replace the basement steps in exchange for a discount on his rent for five months and was satisfied with his work. She said she’s “making preparations” now to evict him and is concerned he will take doors off. She told police she doesn’t want him removing anything from the residence itself or making any more “modifications or renovations” beyond what he’d done with the steps. The tenant claims his landlady’s “significant other” came to his home and wanted to fight “and even threatened bodily harm,” but had no proof.

Chased: A Brilliant man was taken into custody after he allegedly fled police trying to pull him over for traffic violations, Sunday. Police said Zane A. Walker, 43, 1209 Gillcrest St., Brilliant, was booked into the county jail on a felony fleeing and eluding charge. They alleged Walker was traveling the wrong way in a one-way alley and when they tried to stop him claim he “immediately began to accelerate at a high rate of speed and traveled through a red light” at the intersection of Fourth and Market streets and “began to reach speeds of 60 miles per hour.” They allege he ran several stop signs and drove left of center and ran a red light at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard before leaving city limits. Ohio State Highway Patrol located the vehicle, disabled, in the middle of County Road 26 west of Cross Creek Road just outside of the city. A sheriff’s deputy and K9 Rasti, tracked Walker into the woods, where they, OSHP and other officers took him into custody. Police noted there was “a crowd of pedestrians (resembling a block party) in the 100 block of South Fourth Street” when Walker allegedly sped through the downtown.

Rotten tomatoes: A woman in the 700 block of Market Street said a man was throwing tomatoes at her from the third floor, Saturday. She showed police “what appeared to be a small tomato” and told them she’d complained about him to management before. Police spoke with the man, who denied throwing any tomatoes and said he was sleeping.

Dog fight: A city resident claimed a man was agitated with her and “set his dog on her” in the 4000 block of Sunset Boulevard, Saturday. The male admitted he was upset and “possibly swore at (her)” but insisted he hadn’t set his dog on her. They were told to separate and try to avoid each other in the future.

Dog cleared: A Sherman Avenue resident told police his juvenile son was bit by a black dog that had been running around the area, Friday. Police said the child had a small mark on his forehead and some scratches on his side, but when they reviewed video footage of the child with the dog they noted that “at no point in the video does the dog attack the child.” Police returned to the residence to tell the child’s father and said the juvenile “then admitted that the dog did not attack him.”

Sticking out: A caller complained of debris in the roadway near the Lincoln Avenue Exit, Friday. Police checked the area and said there was “a stick barely protruding into the roadway.”

Grounded: An intoxicated male was reported passed out on the sidewalk in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Friday. Police said when they arrived he was unable to stand, so they called Steubenville EMS to transport him to the hospital.

Disappeared: A caller reported a “seemingly unresponsive” man lying in the grass on South Street near Hill Avenue, Friday. Police checked the area on foot and in cruisers but were unable to find anyone in distress.

Refused help: Someone reported a woman on North Commercial Alley at North Street possibly overdosing, but police said she was “alert and walking around” and denied taking anything, Friday. She also refused medical attention.

Strained relations: A disturbance was reported in the 1000 block of Adams Street, Sunday. The woman causing the problems also called, telling deputies she was “going to break windows and slash tires on her mother’s vehicle.” She told them her mother had her bank card and wouldn’t give it back and claimed her mother owed her money so she was going to “damage property until she was given what was owed to her.” Her mother said she did have the card because her daughter had asked her to hold on to it for her. She gave the card to police, who gave it to her daughter and got personal items out of her mother’s car. The daughter wanted to go in the house and get more items but her mother refused to allow her inside.

Booked: Justin T. Randolph, 27, 730 Rosswell Ave., Steubenville, domestic violence, July 31.
