Police reports

Steubenville Police

Say goodbye: Police responding to a disturbance call on Rosswell Avenue said they found a woman crying as she pushed a baby stroller with a small child walking next to her, Wednesday. The woman said she and her boyfriend had been fighting since the day before and the child told them “his ‘daddy’ pushed him into a wall.” Police said the male was “visibly sweating and breathing heavily” when they spoke with him and admitted they’d been arguing, but refused to explain the cause because it was “personal.” He had a round red mark on his chest and told them the female had bit him but said he’d done nothing to merit it. He said he was holding the juvenile when she tried to take the child from him and he “only held his hand up to prevent (her) from taking the juvenile.” The female told police he’d “picked her up by te back of her pants and attempted to physically throw her out te front door … to (keep) her from taking the kids with her,” so she bit him to make him let go. She said before she bit him the man had been “screaming at the juvenile … (that) he hated him repeatedly because the child wanted to go with his mother. She said he’d also been screaming at their other children in the stroller and said at one point he tried to grab the oldest child and run upstairs but the child “fell and hit his head on a small table in the hallway,” prompting her to try and leave with all of them.

Memory lapse: A woman in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue reported a breaking and entering, Tuesday. She said she came home to find her basement door open and several household items, including a window air conditioner, a stuffed animal and a wall hanging, missing and told police she didn’t see it happening but was certain it was a woman known to her. She said the other woman had “stayed with her from time-to-time to help with (her) kids” and had lived with her previously but did not reside at her current address. The other woman advised she did enter the home to get her things but insisted the things she took belonged to her. She also told police she’d moved in with the caller on July 1 “and had several bills and mail” to back it up. Neighbors also confirmed the woman had been living there and her mother told police the air conditioner belongs to her and she’d only allowed them to use it. Police said there was no sign of forced entry and the caller still wants to try and pursue charges against her, but that will be up to the prosecutor.

Juvenile injured: A city resident was taken into custody after a caller reported a juvenile being cut with a knife in the 1300 block of Oregon Avenue, Wednesday. Allison Pool, 38, 1308 Oregon Ave., was charged with felonious assault, police said.

Pole down: A utility pole snapped in the 3100 block of Johnson Boulevard, Tuesday. Police said a piece of the pole “flew across the street, striking (a) truck” and broke a window at another house.

Wouldn’t talk: A caller in the 1500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue wanted someone removed from her residence, Tuesday. Police said there were two men at the residence “moving property outside.” Police said they asked her why she’d called and pointed out the men were “willingly leaving,” so she walked upstairs and refused to provide any information. The male who’d lived there said he “was willing to leave.”

Awkward: A man who lost his phone at a cafe in Weirton told police he’d tracked it to the 1100 block of Claire Avenue, Tuesday. Police went with him to the area to try and get it back and saw a woman standing on the sidewalk. They said he walked up to speak with her and she gave him the phone back, “however (it) had already been resent.” She claimed she thought it was hers when she picked it up at the cafe.

Stolen: A Maxwell Avenue resident said a man dressed in a large camouflage jacket with a black mask came on his porch and stole his bike, Tuesday. He said it’s black and green and says “Huff” on the side.

Explain away: Callers reported a couple arguing on Kendall Avenue at Foster Place, but the pair told police they were just “walking and talking,” Tuesday. They told officers they didn’t need any assistance.

Warrant served: Amanda Lemasters, 36, Wheeling, failure to appear (Steubenville Municipal Court), Tuesday.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Thin skin: An Irondale resident said a councilman and his wife came onto his property, walked up on the porch and the male started yelling at him, directing profanities at him, Tuesday. He said the diatribe continued for about 20-25 minutes before the man’s wife convinced him to leave. He told deputies it didn’t get physical, and he didn’t threaten him. Deputies asked him what caused it, and he admitted posting to an online group that he was going to take down a “make Irondale better” sign at the entrance to Irondale.

There’s a reason: An Adena resident said a council member showed up at her home “and was screaming at her and the neighbor,” Monday. She said the council member stopped outside her house “and began (shouting) profanities and yelling at them.” She said it’s been going on for “quite some time” but they hadn’t been threatened though the council member did have a suggestion as to what they could do to keep themselves occupied. The motorist told deputies the two neighbors had been yelling at her and though she knew it was a mistake to turn around, she was having a bad day and “couldn’t stop herself” and responded in kind. She said she tries to avoid contact with the two of them, but they still yell and make a point of walking past her house to make rude comments. She said they’ve also made up lies about her and her family.

Trashed: The owner of a Bloomingdale residence said someone entered the unoccupied property and overturned furniture, Monday. Deputies said it appeared cabinets had also been ransacked.

Burgled: A breaking-and-entering was reported at an Adena gas station, Tuesday. Deputies said a family member discovered a door had been pried away from the frame. Cash meant for that day’s start up as well as money intended for deposit were stolen, along with some change taken from the cash register.

Tractor moved: An Adena resident told deputies he thinks someone tried to steal his tractor, Tuesday. He said he’d parked it by the house the night before and when he went out that day “discovered it on another part of the property.”
