Brooke County Sheriff

Charged: Ethan S. Beaver, 19, 113 Federal St., Wellsburg, domestic battery and assault, battery on an officer, obstructing an officer and resisting arrest, Wednesday. Beaver allegedly three a vase at a woman known to him, spit at her, and while deputies were attempting to arrest him, kicked one in the chest.

Charged: Jessica A. Cronin, 44, 16730 state Route 152, driving while suspended and expired registration; Amber L. Folda, 34, 1303 Oregon Ave., Steubenville, improper backing; Michelle N. Kernya, 44, 80151 Unionvale-Kernwood Road, Adena, stop sign violation; Joshawa L. Jackson, 42, Apartment 64, 901 Bank St., disorderly conduct, probation violation and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia; Ashley N. Baker, 24, Apartment 47, 901 Bank St., disorderly conduct; Mary H. Jackson, 42, 1531 Euclid Ave., Steubenville, probation violation; Corey R. Johnston, 54, 17893 state Route 152, improper backing and driving under the influence; Joseph A. Bernardi, 23, Moundsville, trespassing; Katherine L. Knight, 52, 39 Phaeton Ave., Chester, expired registration; and Paul D. O’Brien, 49, Orient, Ohio, worthless check.

Steubenville Police

Habitual offender: Police said when they stopped a vehicle with a broken taillight on Pittsburgh Street at Wellesley Avenue and asked the driver for her license, she “openly admitted to not having one as her driving privileges had been suspended for nearly 20 years in Ohio,” Wednesday. Police also discovered the temporary license plate on the vehicle was expired. Terri A. Neeley, 55, 1326 Oak Grove Ave., Steubenville, was cited for driving under suspension and expired/unlawful plates and advised her appearance in Municipal Court was mandatory. Her passenger, Rodney Baker, 36, 1333 Arlington Ave., Steubenville, also was taken into custody after police discovered he had an active warrant for failure to appear.

Bad move: A city resident defied a lifetime ban from Kroger and ended up in custody, Wednesday. Police said Delmar Cunningham, 49, 322 S. Fourth St., was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of misdemeanor theft and contempt of court. Employees allegedly spotted Cunningham leaving the store with nearly $30 in merchandise he hadn’t paid for, then hopped onto a SVRTA bus for a ride home. Police stopped the bus at the intersection of Brady Circle West and Oregon Avenue.

Help needed: Police found a man laying on the sidewalk near a church in the 100 block of North Fifth Street, Wednesday. The man told them he’s homeless with no place to stay, hasn’t eaten in a week and is in withdrawal. Police said he also had a wound on his heel. He told them he would like to go to the hospital for treatment, so police called Steubenville firefighters transport him.

Pockets full: A man walking in the 400 block of Market Street ducked into a green area when he saw police driving by, Wednesday. When they stopped to check on him, police said he was holding a package of grapes, had stashed a sandwich in a pot and admitted stealing the items from Speedway. Police had him empty his pockets and discovered he also had two sodas and some candy that he hadn’t paid for.

Bothered: A Hollywood Boulevard resident told police she’s being harassed by a woman related to her child’s father, Wednesday. She said the woman “has had a history of using drugs” and was recently hospitalized in West Virginia, and is using her phone and social media to badger her.

Christmas in July: Wal-Mart employees said a female loaded her backpack with merchandise and fled the store when they confronted her, Wednesday. Police checked the area for the vehicle she left in but were unable to locate it.

Nervous: A Sunset Boulevard man told police he’d been exchanging texts with a male acquaintance about his girlfriend and was uncomfortable with the last one he’d received, Wednesday. He said no direct threats were made but said he “felt threatened” by thelast text he got from the man.

Disturbance: A caller reported a man in the 700 block of N. 4th Street “yelling in or around the street,” Wednesday. Police checked the area but didn’t find him.

Recurring problem: A woman and two male companions were warned to leave an abandoned property in the 500 block of North St., Wednesday, The woman claimed she had permission to be there, but when she told police who had told she could be on the property they pointed out his permission means nothing because he doesn’t own it. She left the property, but they caught her there again later and warned her she needed to stay away.

Magnetic attraction: A Henry Avenue resident told police his wife keeps coming back, despite a protection order barring her from all contact with him.

Roadblock: Someone parked a black Jeep in the alley in the 700 block of Rosswell Avenue, completely blocking the roadway, Wednesday. No one was in the vehicle, but the owner left the windows down, the door unlocked and his wallet and cell hone inside. They couldn’t locate the owner so a tow truck was called. The driver was attempting to remove the vehicle when the owner showed up and moved the car, but he still was issued a ticket for the parking violation.

Cited: Ashley Dicola, 34, 563 N. Fifth St., Toronto, driving under suspension; Marc Bell, 38, 403 Union Ave., Steubenville, no registration light; Fernando Harman Jr., 25, 713 Market St., Apt. F, Steubenville, display of plates.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Jailed for contempt: Two women who failed to complete their community service as ordered were booked into the county jail for contempt of court, July 15. Elizabeth A. Newman, 47, 1595 township Road 212, Bloomingdale, was ordered to jail to serve a 30-day suspended sentence for a 2023 misdemeanor domestic violence conviction. Marayha K. Richards, 26, 1418 Pennsylvania Ave., Steubenville, was sent to jail to serve 79 days for not completing any of the 100 hours of community service she’d been ordered to perform on a 2023 disorderly conduct and contempt of court charge. Both were ordered to jail after review hearings in Wintersville county court.

Reeled in: A Rayland man who applied online for a subcontracting job at the airport said when he tried to follow up, he discovered “the application was a fraud and the position was not posted.” He said he entered all his personal information into the bogus application.
