Drug, domestic violence charged: A city resident was booked into the Jefferson County jail after she allegedly threw an opened pocketknife at her estranged husband, Thursday. Police said they charged Joni Hython, 40, with domestic violence and possession of drug paraphernalia after a witness confirmed the victim’s account. Police said Hython’s estranged husband told them she’d showed up at the residence with their child in tow and began causing a disturbance, “screaming at him from inside her vehicle…(and) making comments about killing him and that he was going to be finished.” He’d said she threw something at him and initially thought it was a cell phone, but realized it was “actually a pocketknife with the blade extended.” A witness told police he was mowing grass when he saw Hython pull up, “screaming out of the window” and said he heard her threatening to kill her ex before “he saw an object fly out of the vehicle and toward” her ex-husband before driving away. Earlier in the day a caller also had reported seeing Hython driving a pickup truck in the 400 block of Henry Avenue “at high rates of speed, often stopping in front of a residence in the area and beeping the horn.” The victim told police he wanted to pursue charges, and when police located Hython they said she admitted going to the residence but insisted there was no disturbance and claimed she and her child feared her ex. As Hython was taken into custody police say she told them she had drug paraphernalia tucked in her bra. A woman who was with in Hython’s car was told she was free to leave, but as she walked away police allege they saw her drop a glass pipe. Jiah Minniefield, 27, 622 Brady Ave., Steubenville, was issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia.”

Unhappy wife, unhappy life: A Brady Avenue resident alleges his wife had a fit because their child had made a mess in his bedroom and he hadn’t cleaned it up yet, Thursday. He told police he wasn’t aware that there even was a mess and when they started arguing, he hit record on his phone because “she has had him arrested in the past after arguing, alleging domestic abuse.” Police said the videos showed his wife lying on the sofa while she argued with him and when he started going up the stairs to clean the mess she got up and “quickly approached him, trying to knock the phone out of his hand so (he) couldn’t continue recording…and even tried to strike him.” He told police she’d claimed he shoved her down the steps, but they said the video didn’t show that. She left the residence before officers could talk to her but apparently returned minutes after they left the property and locked herself and the child in a bedroom. Police said they made entrance to the room and took Rachel L. Keith, 32, 762 Brady Ave., into custody on a domestic violence charge. They reported she initially claimed her husband shoved her down the stairs when she tried to grab his phone, but later “unintentionally advised that she had lost her balance on the steps and fell down the stairs … then attempted to backtrack and advised (police) that she fell due to her husband letting go of her” as they struggled for control of the phone.

Police allege the vehicle “rolled about 35-40 feet from the point of impact with the embankment … to the point of rest.”
