No vacancy: Union Avenue residents discovered someone has been living in their detached garage, Saturday. The homeowner said she discovered the lock had been broken, and police said there were two sleeping bags and women's clothing inside that didn't belong to the homeowners. She also said a Samsung tablet was missing from her house and a chainsaw from their basement and told police she thinks the intruder entered the house while they were out.
Learned behavior: A city resident showed police of a juvenile attacking her son, Saturday. Police said the video showed the woman's son on the ground "being struck ...multiple times" by the other juvenile. Police were unable to locate the other juvenile's parents and said the individual who was supposed to be watching the kids thought the parents were at work. He said the parents "leave their children with him frequently and ... some of them were causing problems," adding one of them had directed derogatory language at the assault victim.
Little things: A North Sixth Street resident said someone is sending her sexually explicit texts and photos, Saturday. She unblocked the sender long enough for police to get the phone number.
Repetitive: A caller reported seeing what looked like a domestic dispute in a Kia SUV, Saturday. The male was outside the vehicle when police arrived but by then they'd determined he had multiple warrants outstanding. Westley L. Bowling, 37, 511 Highland Ave., Steubenville, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail ail on charges of domestic violence, two counts of violating a protection order and a bench warrant for failure to appear, police said.
Knotted up: A woman in the 1400 block of Euclid Avenue wanted a man removed from the residence, Saturday. When they spoke with the man police said he told them he'd been trying to leave when the woman "struck him in the head with a phone." Police said he had a small knot on the back of his head but refused medical treatment. When they tried to speak with the woman, she'd "locked her door and refused to answer." The man said he could stay at a friend's house for the night, but he wants to pursue charges.
Multiple charges: A man who police say tried to escape a traffic stop on foot was taken into custody on charges of obstruction and fleeding/eluding, Sunday. Rossi Babela, 21, 141 Efts Lane, Steubenville, also was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence, speeding and failure to display headlights, police said. Police allege Babela turned his headlights off on Shirley Circle after they tried to stop him on Sunset Boulevard traveling at a high rate of speed. They said they chased Babela into a fenced backyard in the 100 block of Shirley Circle, where he was taken into custody. Police allege Babela smelled strongly of alcohol and said his eyes were bloodshot and glossy.
Encamped: Police found "piles of trash scattered across the hillside" and two tents pitched by the city's water tank on Adams Street hill, Friday. Two people found in one of the tents were advised they can't stay there, then discovered the female, Camile Beane, 31, no fixed address, had an outstanding warrant. Police report Beane subsequently fled a police hold at the hospital and was located on Sinclair Avenue at Lauretta Drive. She's now facing an escape charge in addition to the warrant.
Looking for freebies: A handyman said someone broke out a window he'd already replaced in a house he was working on, Friday. He said he also found an extension cord stretched out of the basement window into a side yard.
Overstepped: A Euclid Avenue resident said her landlord showed up to "check" on the property and told her she needs to be out by the end of the month but never served her an eviction notice, Friday. Police said her lease is good until January 2025 and said the woman told them the landlord kicked her daughter's door and get "far too close to her" during their argument. She also claimed he'd threatened to "send his acquaintances to the residence to assault her." Police told he can't force her to leave without going through the eviction process.
Drunk driving arrest: A caller reported a vehicle "stopped in the roadway and the driver possibly passed out" on North Seventh Street near the Coen station, Saturday. Police said the vehicle's engine was running and the driver slumped over when they arrived and when they knocked on the window to stir him the driver "hit the gas and brake and began spinning the tires" and they had to tell him several times to put the vehicle in park. They allege he smelled strongly of alcohol and was "very unsteady" on his feet. Hunter G. Smith, 23, 332 Clearview, Wheeling, was booked into the county jail on an eight-hour intoxication hold and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence.
Lesson learned: A Kendall Avenue resident was cited after someone showed police a Ring camera video of his dogs approaching a postal worker, Friday. Zepeda B. Luis, 60, 711 Kendall Ave., was cited for dog at large. Police said they'd warned him the day before that he needs to keep them tied up on his property.
Infected: A Toronto man said he'd gotten malware on his cellular devices and now someone is accessing them remotely, Saturday.
Porch pirate: A Woodlawn Road resident said someone stole a package from his porch less than an hour after the Amazon driver left it there, Friday. He said the package contained a $76 car Apple Play.
Faux pas: Homeowners in the 1400 block of Belleview said someone parked in their driveway, Saturday. Police were unable to make contact with the owner, who didn't come outside until they'd ticketed the vehicle for being parked in a restricted area and the tow truck arrived.
Ran away: Two people fled a vehicle that struck a parked car on University Boulevard at Brady Avenue, Saturday. Police said the vehicle was unoccupied with heavy front-end damage and airbag deployment.
Cited: Jesse P. Iamarino, 23, 144 Shirley Circle, Steubenville, assured clear distance ahead after a three-car chain reaction accident Friday at Sunset Boulevard and Calvin Jones Way; Damon Desentiago. 27, 256 N. 10th St., Steubenville, no driver's license and assured clear distance ahead after a two-vehicle accident on Sunset at Negley Avenue; Amber R. Richardson, 48, 313 Standard Ave., Mingo Junction, speeding (school zone); Renee Staudacher, 39, 1127 Lincoln Ave., Steubenville, expired plates and no operator's license.
