Taken for hundreds: A Toronto area resident told police his computer "locked up" so he called the number on the screen and the man on the other end asked for his credit and debit card numbers then told him he could fix it for $400, payable with Xbox gift cards, Sunday. He said after going to a store and purchasing them he gave the man the activation codes, then was told to go to a different store and purchase $500 more in gift cards. He said he had only $200 in his pocket and his credit cards and debit card wouldn't work so he called his brother to borrow the other $300, and after convincing him he was his brother and not a scammer his brother met him at Wal-Mart. He said his brother and the Wal-Mart cashier told him he was being scammed so he hung up on the guy who'd been "helping" him. The guy called back several times.

Animal problem: A Bergholz man said he had to shoot a neighbor's dog because it was attacking his chickens, Saturday. He said he heard the commotion and when he investigated, saw a Husky "trying to pin down and kill a chicken." He told deputies he fired a warning shot and a dog that was with the Husky ran off but the Husky didn't budge until he fired a shot off near it. He said at that point the Husky released the chicken and "charged after him," firing off one more shot into its midsection. The Husky was "really skinny and appeared malnourished" and deputies theorized desperation might have precipitated the attack. He said in the past, one of the neighbor's dogs "tore the throat out of one of his sheep while they were running loose on his property."

Bad choice: A Toronto area woman trying to buy a Maine Coon cat said she was swindled out of several hundred dollars on Facebook marketplace, Sunday. She said located a seller in Georgia willing to sell her one "for about $500 to be paid with cards," but said she kept asking for additional fees.
