No knock: A Railroad Avenue resident told police she was assaulted at a neighbor’s house, Friday. She said she’s distantly related to the neighbor and stops at his house daily, but when she walked inside that day the other woman walked into the room and tackled her to the ground. She said the other woman began “yelling at her to get out … and started striking and hitting her,” grabbing her legs and dragging her across the floor. She said the homeowner had to yell at the other woman several times to let her go. Police said she was “visually upset and holding her right shoulder and right knee” and complaining of a bad headache and rubbing the back of her head, but she didn’t want an ambulance and said she’d get to the hospital on her own. The homeowner confirmed they’re family and said she has permission to come and go. He said that day when his relative came in the back door the other woman jumped off the sofa and ran out of the room, then he heard “yelling coming from the kitchen area and observed the two in an altercation.”
Pulled along: A woman in the 400 block of Adams Street told police her live-in boyfriend dragged her across the floor, leaving her with a rug burn, Saturday. She said they’ve been co-habitating for several months. Police said when they found the male hiding in the shower, he told them he’d “broken a liquor bottle against the wall due to him being tired of the victim always being intoxicated.” He said he’d told her to leave the residence, but she refused and said she was sitting in the doorway, so he tried to shut the door. He said he didn’t have any injuries and didn’t think she did, either. The female was adamant she wanted to pursue charges.
Sister act: A woman in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue said a female “was highly upset with her juvenile sister and went after her,” Saturday. The caller said the juvenile wasn’t assaulted, but when they spoke with the child, she said her sister had hit her but didn’t want to pursue charges. The woman who’d hit her had left the residence before police arrived, but callers said she returned later in the evening and caused another disturbance. The caller said the other woman was getting a new apartment later in the week and agreed to stay in her room “and not cause any further disturbances for the remainder of the night.”
Threats: A woman in the 400 block of North Fifth Street reported harassing and threatening messages from her ex, Saturday. She told police he’s “banned from the state of Ohio and is currently on parole in West Virginia.” Police told her not to respond to his messages and save any that she receives. They also explained what she’d have to do to obtain a protection order.
Bad reaction: A city resident “admitted to screaming and getting loud” after his wife told him she wants a divorce but said their disagreement didn’t get physical, Saturday. He and his wife agreed there was no physical altercation. She said her husband had wanted to speak with her “but she refuses to speak with him when he drinks.” She said if he’d go home, she would stay at a friend’s and then speak with him in the morning.
Charged: Employees at Wal-Mart allege a woman failed to scan 18 items at the self-checkout, Sunday. Police said Gretchen D. Baker, 66, Sinclair Avenue, Steubenville, was charged with misdemeanor theft.
Causing problems: A couple causing a disturbance in the 100 block of North Fourth Street told police they were arguing over a pet, Sunday. When police arrived the couple said everything was fine and no help was needed.
Issues: A woman was taken into custody after a traffic stop in the 700 block of University Boulevard, Monday. Marci Jo Ebert, 38, 1413½ Wellesley Ave., Steubenville, was booked into the county jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and was cited for failure to signal. Police allege they found a burned glass pipe in Ebert’s pocket and another alongside the drivers’ seat, along with “several white crumbs on the driver side seat … consistent with crack.” Police report also finding six baggies with a white rock-like substance, two other used glass pipes and three small scales as well as a 50 gram weight used to calibrate the scales. Police said they also found a loaded handgun in the glove box and said a passenger who had been detained was released from custody after Ebert told them the gun belonged to an individual who had left it in her car. She was charged with the weapons violation because she knew it was there, police said. Rocky road: Two people in the 600 block of Oakmont Avenue told police they’d been arguing but the disagreement didn’t get physical, Monday. The woman said she wanted her live-in boyfriend to leave, but they both said he’d been living there for roughly six months. Police told her they can’t make him leave.
Fishy: Employees at J.C. Penney reported a suspicious older male in an older blue Honda “showing up in the parking lot during the opening of the business and pulling up next to employees and motioning for them to come to his vehicle,” Monday. Employees said they don’t know the man and didn’t have any more information on the vehicle.
Booked: Robert Boyd, 51, 46 Joe Goss St., Colliers, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, Monday. Boyd also was cited for the expired plates.
Burgled: A woman told police her Maxwell Avenue residence was robbed, Monday.
