Confrontation: A Market Street resident told police her boyfriend "became irate and would not let her leave the room" when she confronted him about cheating on her, Monday. She said he grabbed her by the throat and pulled her back in the room, injuring her neck, tearing her shirt and leaving marks on her arms. Police filed domestic violence charges against the man., who fled the scene before they got there.
Made it worse: Elizabeth M. Ely, 39, no fixed address, Steubenville, probation violation, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug abuse instruments, Monday. Police said when they advised Ely of her warrant, she became upset and at one point became "uncooperative, yelling, cursing, (and) acting aggressively," hurling obscenities at the arresting officer who alleged she "even attempted to lunge toward me and kick me." He reported she kicked the doors and hit her head against the partition wall and "continued to be belligerent" with the jail staff, who claimed they found several hypodermic needles and a crack pipe concealed on Ely's person when she was booked in to jail. Police also said they found a crack pipe and some personal items on the floor of the cruiser.
Kissed and made up: A disturbance reported in the 200 block of South Fifth Street turned out to be a couple arguing, Monday. The female told police she was having a verbal disagreement with the male and declined assistance before leaving the area with him.
Hands off: A Sherman Avenue resident said the father of three of her children showed up at her home "under the influence of alcohol and (possibly) narcotics," Monday. She said he "became irate when she would not allow him to punish her daughter," approaching her and when she put her arm out to create distance from him grabbed her wrist and pushed her, threatening to assault her. Police said one of her friends intervened and escorted him out of the residence. She told officers she wants to pursue charges.
Alarmed: A woman reported a male brandished a weapon at her in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue, but when police arrived, she'd left the location, Monday. Police could not locate her, but caught up to her later and said she told them she was purchasing alcohol when a male known to her came into the store and lifted his hoodie to show her he had a gun in his waistband "when he thought she was going to strike him with the bottle of alcohol." She said she was having issues with the man but said he didn't pull the gun out.
Booked: John H. Robinson IV, 34, 815 Market St., Apt. G, Steubenville, possession of drug paraphernalia, Monday. Robinson also was cited for display of plates and driving under suspension. Police allege they found a glass meth pipe with residue and a torch lighter in Robinson's car during a traffic stop.
Bad move: A juvenile was cited for failure to control after striking a parked car in the 3800 block of Bristol Avenue, Monday. Police said the juvenile told them the windshield "had not defrosted completely."
Problem parker: The owner of a car parked in front of someone's driveway in the 1600 block of Oregon Avenue was ticketed and the vehicle towed, Monday.
Causing problems: A resident in the 200 block of North Commercial Alley told police two men were "physically fighting" outside her apartment, Monday. The fight broke up and one of the men went to his apartment in the building and the other left the area, but his female companion remained. The caller said another woman had arrived to speak with the woman who stayed behind and, believing she was there to cause a disturbance, said the second woman left when she was asked why she was there.

Booked: The owner of a Toronto residence told deputies someone was on her property without permission, Monday. Deputies said they found two people in a red Toyota Camry with a shattered windshield and driver side window "with the doors and trunk appearing to have been pried." The female said her ex-boyfriend had vandalized her car so they brought it to the Toronto location to prevent further damage and claimed the owner gave her permission to bring it there, but deputies said she and the male with her "both had glassy, bloodshot eyes and appeared to be impaired." They said the woman was using her feet and attempting to push something under the seat." The male told deputies the house belonged to a family member, and he was permitted on the premises, but when they checked the family said he was not welcome there due to his drug use. Deputies allege he had a "clear plastic pinch baggie" in his hand containing a white, crystal-like substance and eventually admitted it was meth, and also reported finding a glass bong on the floor of the car. Deputies said James Joseph Vanezalos, 33, no fixed address, Toronto, claimed ownership of the drugs and the bong so he was booked into the county jail on charges of possessing meth and possessing drug paraphernalia.
Not welcome: An Adena man said people are coming on his property without permission, Tuesday. He said he recently purchased the property from a family member and is living in a camper while he cleans it up. He said when he returned to the camper to go to bed, he heard someone walking around outside and looked out to see several people walking around his vehicle, then walk over to a makeshift storage area he'd created. He said they didn't try to enter the vehicle or his camper and he didn't recognize them.
